Patrick Mahomes officially ruled out Sunday vs. Packers
As expected, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes wasn’t able to get healthy enough to play in Week 8.
Mahomes was officially ruled out by coach Andy Reid on Friday despite participating in some limited practices during the week.

It deprives us of an exciting Mahomes-Aaron Rodgers duel, but the Chiefs quarterback’s health comes first. It means backup Matt Moore will be tasked with keeping the Chiefs in the game against Rodgers and the Packers. He looked good enough against a tough Denver Bronco defense, but Denver’s offense wasn’t good enough to test Moore’s ability to play in a shootout. Rodgers might do that.
As for Mahomes, it’s an indication that the more optimistic timelines may prove correct as he comes back from his knee injury. The fact that he practiced this week suggests that his status for Week 9 bears watching.
