Patrick Mahomes proved on Sunday night that he can play just as well on the road in the postseason as he has at home, and it sounds like the star quarterback drew added motivation from some comments a Buffalo Bills player made.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 27-24 win over the Bills in the Divisional Round game between the teams at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y. Following the victory, Mahomes shared a couple of photos on Instagram and captioned them “Good Luck.” He wrote the words in quotes.

That was clearly a shot at Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins. In the days leading up to Sunday’s game, there was a lot of talk about Mahomes having never played a true postseason road game. Dawkins spoke about the difficulties visiting player face at Highmark Stadium and wished Mahomes and the Chiefs “good luck.”

“[Mahomes has] only been here once. So he’s never been here. Simple as that,” Dawkins said, via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg. “Pat has never been to the Bills stadium in full. … The environment will be different, and not to say it’s in our favor, but stadium is our favor. Stadium is us. That helps us. I don’t care what nobody says. This is the most dopest feeling I’ve ever had. We’re having two back-to-back playoff games home. Come on now, like we get to leave and go eat wings. It’s cool. So good luck.”

Mahomes thrived in the hostile environment. He went 17/23 for 215 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions on a windy night. He even had to dodge some snowballs on his way off the field (video here).

The best players embrace big moments both at home and on the road, and Mahomes has already done just that countless times during his career. He probably didn’t feel he needed any luck, which is why he used Dawkins’ comment as fuel.
