Referees miss hit to Sam Bradford helmet on 2-point conversion

Sam Bradford penalty

The officiating crew in Thursday night’s game between the Vikings and Cowboys missed a penalty that should have been called on Minnesota’s 2-point conversion attempt to tie the game in the fourth quarter.

The Vikings were down 17-15 after scoring a touchdown in the final minute and went for two. Sam Bradford’s pass sailed high by a mile for an incompletion, effectively giving the Cowboys the game. But Bradford was going wild after the play saying there should have been a penalty because he was hit in the head.

He was right:

The referee watching the play said that Bradford was hit in the shoulder, not the helmet. Unfortunately Bradford was hit in both places, though the ref missed the critical one that should have resulted in a flag. The bad call cost the Vikings a second attempt to tie the game.
