Ex-NFL star Richard Seymour making big run at World Series of Poker

Former NFL defensive lineman Richard Seymour already has three Super Bowl rings, and he is trying to add a World Series of Poker bracelet to his impressive collection of hardware.

Seymour has become an avid poker player since he retired from football, taking part in the WSOP for the past several years. This year, the 39-year-old is making a very impressive run. Entering Wednesday, Seymour was one of 354 players remaining in the $10,000 no-limit hold ’em main event. His chip count of 2.75 million was good for 35th, putting him squarely in the hunt for the $10 million prize. By reaching Day 5, Seymour had already guaranteed himself a minimum payout of $34,845.

According to his Wikipedia page, Seymour has earned more than $500,000 playing poker in professional circuits. He is clearly more than just some bored retired athlete who needs a hobby and has money to waste.

Seymour made a nice run at the WSOP two years ago, and he is hoping to go even further this year. Things will only get tougher for him with each passing day, but he has already proven himself to be more than just a fluke.
