Richard Sherman still upset over way Seahawks tenure ended
It has now been over a year since Richard Sherman played his last game with the Seattle Seahawks, but that is clearly not enough time for the All-Pro cornerback to let bygones be bygones.
With his San Francisco 49ers set to travel to Seattle this weekend, Sherman spoke with Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News about the way his time ended with the team that drafted him. He’s clearly still bothered by the fact that the Seahawks cut him when he was recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
“You just expect after you’ve done so much for a franchise that they wouldn’t cut you when you’re hurt,” Sherman said. “It’s kind of a respect thing more than anything. But they did so you have to roll with the business.”
Sherman was asked specifically about his relationship with Russell Wilson, and he said he doesn’t really have one. He didn’t exactly refute the ESPN report from last year that claimed he felt Wilson was holding the Seahawks back, though he did speak highly of Pete Carroll.
“I’m sure we’ll have some relationships at some point and talk,” Sherman said of the Seattle coach. “Pete was a good man, good coach and did everything he can for that franchise. I don’t have any ill will towards him at all.”
While he’s said time and time again that he understands the NFL is a business, Sherman clearly feels the Seahawks should have shown him more loyalty. As we saw from the gesture Earl Thomas made in what will likely be his last game in Seattle, Sherman is not the only veteran who feels that way about the franchise.
