Robert Griffin III expected to miss 4-8 weeks after fracturing thumb

Robert Griffin III’s training camp with the Baltimore Ravens did not get off to the best start.

Griffin suffered a fractured thumb during a practice game at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night. His right hand hit the helmet of Tim Williams as he was finishing his throwing motion on a pass attempt:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter later reported that Griffin was expected to miss 4-8 weeks due to the injury.

Griffin saw action in three games for the Ravens last season. He re-signed with them over the offseason on a two-year deal and was set to work as Lamar Jackson’s backup. The two are mobile quarterbacks, which made RG3 a natural backup in the system.

Baltimore’s sixth-round pick Trace McSorley, another mobile QB, could have an opportunity to ascend the depth chart with Griffin out for several weeks.
