Saints coach Joe Vitt tears Achilles, breaks wrist chasing car thieves

New Orleans Saints linebackers coach Joe Vitt chased off some would-be car thieves on Saturday, but the move did not come without consequences.

Vitt suffered a torn Achilles and broken wrist after tripping while chasing off the suspects from his home in Metairie, La. around 4:00 am on Saturday, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Vitt was walking around his kitchen when he noticed a blond woman trying to break into his neighbor’s car. He also noticed someone trying to steal his car, which was parked in his driveway. Police say the suspects fled after Vitt opened his door to chase them down.

The coach, 61, began to chase them but tripped after about a block and suffered injuries that required a hospital stay. Fortunately the coach, who has been with the Saints since 2006, did not miss a day of work.
