The Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl defense has gotten off to perhaps the worst start imaginable.
Seattle began the season on Wednesday with a home matchup against the New England Patriots. But it only took about three minutes for disaster to strike.
On the first drive of the game during the first quarter at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash., Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was sacked on a 3rd-and-6 play. Patriots defensive end Dre’Mont Jones was the one who got to him and drove Darnold hard into the turf.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP Darnold came up limping noticeably after the play. He initially went into the blue medical tent but quickly headed into the Seattle locker room from there.

Darnold was said to have suffered a hip injury and was deemed questionable to return to the game. As a result, Seahawks backup QB Drew Lock took over under center during the team’s next drive.
The two-time Pro Bowler Darnold is the undisputed leader and centerpiece of the Seattle offense, especially after last season’s Super Bowl LX victory and the subsequent departure of running back Kenneth Walker III in free agency. But the Seahawks already got some brutal injury breaks over the offseason and may now have sustained their biggest scare yet with Darnold getting hurt in the first three minutes of the new season.
