Brooks Koepka gets kiss from girlfriend Jena Sims before US Open

Brooks Koepka girlfriend

Brooks Koepka was once again in contention at a major championship entering the final round of the US Open on Sunday, and there will be no talk about him snubbing his better half whether he wins or loses.

Prior to the PGA Championship last month, a moment between Koepka and his girlfriend Jena Sims went viral when the four-time major champion ignored Sims’ smooch attempt.

Sims must have seen all of the comments on Twitter, because she was sure to get a kiss from Koepka after he won. Then at Pebble Beach on Sunday, the two did not misfire.

Koepka entered the final round four shots back of the lead.

Jim Harbaugh jumps into Brandel Chamblee versus Brooks Koepka feud

Brooks Koepka rolled to his second consecutive PGA Championship and fourth major win in the last two years. He also got a chance to go “scoreboard” against professional golf commentating provocateur Brandel Chamblee. Koepka acknowledged that Chamblee’s criticism after the Masters, questioning his toughness, made him angry. Koepka posted a picture of Chamblee in a clown nose earlier in May. Chamblee spent the week trying to walk back and qualify his earlier comments, and said Koepka “is in elite company now.”

Koepka has an unusual ally in his feud with Chamblee–Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh weighed in on Chamblee’s previous comments on Monday.

Jim Harbaugh brought up Chamblee going 0-for-4 in making a cut at the PGA Championship. This, though, just sets up Chamblee for the perfect comeback given that Harbaugh is 0-4 against Ohio State since returning to Michigan as head coach. Let’s hope it goes there.

Brooks Koepka was not surprised by ‘DJ’ chants in final round

Brooks Koepka

It’s fair to say that Brooks Koepka was not the crowd favorite down the stretch at the PGA Championship as he struggled through his final round, opening the door for a Dustin Johnson comeback.

Koepka shot four straight bogeys from holes 11-14, making what had previously looked like a procession quite tense, with Johnson closing the gap on him. That got the crowd at Bethpage Black into it on Johnson’s side, and Koepka was serenaded with “DJ” chants down the stretch.

Koepka ultimately won despite shooting +4 on Sunday, and didn’t seem terribly offended by the crowd’s response to his struggles.

If Koepka was as laser-focused all day as he was when he denied his girlfriend on a kiss attempt, then the chants probably didn’t register much with him. It certainly didn’t bother him enough to cost him the championship, as he managed to close things out by a two-stroke margin.

Brooks Koepka’s girlfriend Jena Sims gets big kiss to make up for snub

Jena Sims

Brooks Koepka’s girlfriend Jena Sims got a big makeup kiss that she do deserved after getting snubbed earlier in the day.

Koepka shot a four-over 74 on Sunday, which was enough to win his second consecutive PGA Championship thanks to the huge lead he built up with a record first two rounds.

Prior to his tee time on Sunday, Koepka denied Sims on a kiss attempt:

Maybe Koepka was all business at the time, because once he completed the major win, he was ready for the smooches.

The 29-year-old golfer is in the middle of building his legacy. He won consecutive US Opens in 2017 and 2018 and has now won two PGA Championships in a row. He’ll have a chance to make it three US Opens in a row next month.

Brooks Koepka sticks it to weight loss critics with brilliant first round

Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka answered critics of his recent weight loss with a brilliant first round at the Masters on Thursday.

Koepka shot a six-under 66 to tie for the lead with Bryson DeChambeau after the first day of play. The stellar start was likely a relief for Koepka, who has faced criticism for losing so much weight.

Koepka won his second consecutive US Open last year and also won the PGA Championship. Then he went out and dropped around 20 pounds off his muscular frame, with some rumors suggesting it was due to a desire to look better for an ESPN The Magazine “Body Issue” photoshoot.

Golf Channel commentator Brandel Chamblee ripped Koepka for the weight loss.

“For him to change his body for vanity reasons, for a vanity shoot, is the most reckless self-sabotage that I have ever seen of an athlete in his prime,” Chamblee said.

The weight loss had some effects as Koepka has been shorter off the tee since dropping the weight in November. He also acknowledged this week that he may have gone too far with his weight loss efforts. He cut down to 1,800 calories per day, which sapped him of energy.

“But I wanted to do it and try to lose some weight, and maybe went about it a little too aggressively for just a long period of time and the intensity of what I was doing,” Koepka said.

Whatever the reason for the weight loss, Koepka seems to have things back on track at Augusta National. The 28-year-old is seeking his first green jacket and fourth major win.

Dustin Johnson congratulates Brooks Koepka in painfully awkward video

Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson have done their best to downplay reports about them nearly getting into a physical altercation at the Ryder Cup, and we would rather take their word for it than be treated to another horrifically uncomfortable video like they one they put out on Tuesday.

After Koepka was voted the 2018 PGA Tour Player of the Year by his peers, the Tour shared a video on social media that featured Johnson congratulating Koepka. It began with Koepka telling Johnson, “Hey man, I don’t ever want anything to come between us.”

For those of you who don’t know the story, a report claimed Johnson and Koepka — who are considered close friends — got into an argument at a Team Europe afterparty after losing the Ryder Cup and nearly came to blows. Koepka has since denied that any such incident took place, but even Team USA captain Jim Furyk acknowledged that there was some sort of issue.

That video was likely a way for Johnson and Koepka to downplay all the drama, but boy was it awkward.

Brooks Koepka shoots down report of fight with Dustin Johnson

The reports of drama between members of the Team USA Ryder Cup team have continued to roll in over the past several days, and the most noteworthy was that Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka nearly got into a physical altercation on Sunday night. According to Koepka, that report was 100 percent fabricated.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Koepka said he and Johnson did not have an argument before, during or after the Ryder Cup — let alone a near fist-fight at a Team Europe afterparty.

Koepka added that people like making up stories and running with them and said this is “not the first time there’s been a news story that isn’t true that’s gone out.”

Word of the alleged confrontation first popped up in The Telegraph and was later confirmed by the Golf Channel, so multiple outlets are claiming there was some sort of altercation. Johnson and Koepka are considered close friends who work out together in Florida, which made it surprising that they were not paired together in foursomes on Friday afternoon.

From the way it sounds, the drama between Johnson and Koepka was only part of what went wrong during a “devastating” week for Team USA.

Report: Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka almost fist-fought after Ryder Cup

Emotions have been running high since Team USA was defeated in convincing fashion by Team Europe at the Ryder Cup over the weekend, but it sounds like Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka may have been more worked up than anyone.

James Corrigan of The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Johnson and Koepka nearly came to blows and had to be separated while they were visiting the European team room after the Ryder Cup ended on Sunday. While the exact reason for the altercation is unknown, Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte confirmed on Tuesday that it did, in fact, take place.

Johnson and Koepka, two former U.S. Open champions, played together in the Saturday afternoon foursomes, losing to Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson. The two are considered close friends and often work out together in Florida, which is part of what made the altercation so surprising. Johnson’s fiancee Paulina Gretzky was nearby when the incident took place, and a source told The Telegraph that the wife of a European golfer who witnessed it was “clearly shocked and upset by the nastiness, which was very threatening.”

Team USA has not exactly handled its loss in France with class, as Patrick Reed also ripped into Jordan Spieth for not wanting to pair with him and criticized Team USA captain Jim Furyk for benching him in the afternoon on the first day. Reed has an excellent record at the Ryder Cup and felt like he was put in a position to fail this year.

Between the Ryder Cup altercation and some of the rumors that have been swirling about his relationship with Gretzky, Johnson seems to be making headlines for a lot more than just his golf swing lately.

Joe Buck avoids Brooks Koepka girlfriend topic this time

Brooks Koepka girlfriend

Brooks Koepka’s US Open win was somewhat marred last year by a broadcast snafu from FOX, so this time around, Joe Buck chose to avoid the topic for the most part.

Koepka made a putt for bogey on 18 at Shinnecock Hills that allowed him to finish 1 over for the round and first at the US Open. After making his putt, Koepka hugged his caddie, got daps from Dustin Johnson and Curtis Strange, celebrated with his father, and then he shared a big kiss with girlfriend Jena Sims.

Buck mentioned Koepka’s caddie, father, and Strange all by name, but he stayed silent during the smooch Koepka shared with Sims.

So why is that significant? Last year, Buck misidentified Koepka’s girlfriend as his previous one. He later had to correct things and note that Sims was Koepka’s new girlfriend.

Later after Koepka’s second straight win at the US Open became official, FOX showed Koepka walking with Sims before they did a recap. That time Buck mentioned Jena, and emphasized her name. He knew it would be an issue people would be watching out for and adjusted accordingly.

Brooks Koepka girlfriend is Jena Sims, not Becky Edwards

Jena Sims

Brooks Koepka won his first career major when he captured the US Open on Sunday with a combined score of 16 under for the tournament, tying a US Open record.

Koepka was carted away after finishing up on 18 and was joined by his girlfriend Jena Sims, who was there to celebrate with him.

There was a slightly awkward moment for those watching on TV as FOX’s Joe Buck incorrectly identified Koepka’s girlfriend as Becky Edwards, a pro soccer player. Those two actually broke up, and Koepka’s new girlfriend is Sims, who is an actress.

Luckily color commentator Brad Faxon was there to correct things:

The mistake is understandable as Koepka and Edwards appeared to be dating as of December, though they’re obviously no longer together. Likewise, the only clue that Sims has given on social media about the two being in a relationship is this photo she shared on Saturday:

It's par-tee time!

Faxon later said he only knew about Koepka’s new girlfriend thanks to a tip from a friend and Koepka telling him in secret.
