Kia Proctor reportedly seeking $15K per month in child support from Cam Newton

Cam Newton

The mother of four of Cam Newton’s children is seeking child support from the New England Patriots star, and lots of it.

According to court papers obtained by Bossip, Kia Proctor claims she spends more than $15,000 per month to care for the four children she shares with Newton. She calculated a $15,678 monthly figure based on $3,000 in household and grocery items, $2,966 on child care, $2,640 for a car payment, $666 in clothing, $416 in entertainment and $300 in grooming.

Proctor said she only makes $1,276 per month working for minimum wage. She says she did not work during her six years together with Newton.

Newton sued Proctor for paternity and demanded a DNA test last year. He said at the time that he had been voluntarily paying child support and wanted a judge to determine an exact figure he must pay. Proctor responded with a countersuit for full physical custody, child support, health benefits, life insurance for the children, and her lawyer and expert fees.

Newton also has a fifth child with Instagram model La Reina Shaw.

At the moment, Newton is likely letting his attorneys handle the child support dispute with Proctor. He got some big news this week that will give him an opportunity to earn his next big pay day.

Cam Newton reportedly named Patriots starting QB for Week 1

Cam Newton

Cam Newton has reportedly beaten out Jarrett Stidham for the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback job.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick informed his players on Thursday morning that Newton will start in Week 1, according to Jim McBride of The Boston Globe.

Newton was competing against Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer, though Hoyer never had much of a chance to win the job. There was some belief earlier in the offseason that Stidham had the upper-hand due to his familiarity with New England’s system, but Newton has been the most impressive quarterback in training camp.

Belichick had nothing but overwhelmingly positive things to say about Newton’s work ethic recently.

From a talent standpoint, Newton was the obvious choice. He’s a former NFL MVP who is still just 31, though he is coming off foot surgery and had shoulder trouble before that. That said, the Patriots did not sign him to be a backup all season. We knew he would start at some point in 2020, but he has obviously done enough to prove he is up to the task now.

One Patriots star made it clear recently that he is looking forward to catching passes from Newton. If Newton can remain healthy, he will be on a mission to prove he is still capable of being an elite starter.

Bill Belichick shares his thoughts on Cam Newton’s work ethic

Bill Belichick has still only spent a very small amount of time on the practice field with Cam Newton, but the New England Patriots coach is already impressed with what he has seen.

Belichick has praised Newton for his work ethic numerous times in recent weeks. That theme continued during the coach’s appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio Monday morning.

“He’s an extremely hard worker. Nobody works harder than Cam does. He’s here early. He stays late, and he works very hard,” Belichick said. “Some players like to work on things they’re good at — you know, if you’re strong on the bench press and just keep throwing more weight on the bench. Cam’s the type of player that works on things he’s not as good at and really tries to improve on a daily basis.”

Belichick made similar remarks when discussing Newton with Rich Eisen recently, and it was easy to get the feeling that Newton is on his way to beating out second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham for the starting job.

The Patriots are going to play the quarterback Belichick feels gives them the best chance to win. While Stidham may have a bright future, Newton is a former NFL MVP who is still just 31. If he’s healthy, it’s hard to imagine him not winning the job. Belichick has said he is open to taking a unique approach at the position, but our guess is Newton will be named the Week 1 starter.

Julian Edelman adopts his own superhero persona with Cam Newton

Julian Edelman appears to be getting closer and closer to moving on from Tom Brady.

On Tuesday, the New England Patriots wide receiver shared a photo on Instagram that may bring a tear to his former teammate’s eye. Since Cam Newton’s nickname is “Superman,” Edelman is ready to take on a superhero persona of his own.

Newton appears to be separating himself from second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the Patriots’ quarterback competition. He’s also been looking Edelman’s way plenty in practice.

Edelman and Brady had one of the longest-running bromances in sports, so Edelman must have been devastated when Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Some of Edelman’s social media activity even fueled speculation that he wanted to join Brady in Tampa. However, he has since offered a very blunt take on moving on from the six-time Super Bowl champion.

If Newton is healthy and learns New England’s offense, he and Edelman — or should we say Superman and Batman — will likely enjoy plenty of success together.

Bill Belichick has high praise for Cam Newton

Cam Newton

Bill Belichick offered some high praise for Cam Newton during a recent interview.

Belichick joined “The Rich Eisen Show” for a phone interview on Monday and was asked about Newton. The New England Patriots head coach said how impressed he has been with the effort the quarterback has given since joining the team.

“He’s an extremely hard-working player,” Belichick said of Newton. “(He’s a) first-guy in, last-one out type of guy. He’s really studied hard and has spent a lot of extra time trying to learn our offense, our communication, our calls, nomenclature and so forth. I’ve been very impressed with that. He’s done a good job of picking it up. He’s a very skilled athlete. We’re just working through it day by day. We have a long way to go, but we’re taking steps and we’ve got a very competitive competition at a very competitive position at the quarterback spot. It will be interesting to see how everybody does.”

Eisen asked Belichick what led the Patriots to sign Newton. Belichick said that Newton being available is what helped. He also specified that Newton was open to working with their situation. That likely means he was willing to take a prove-it contract and not be guaranteed the starting job.

Belichick says Newton has “a lot to work with,” which could be a good sign about his standing in the Patriots’ quarterback race.

Newton is competing with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting job. Stidham is currently dealing with a hip injury.

Bill Belichick open to Patriots using two-QB system

The New England Patriots are holding an open competition at the quarterback position this offseason, but could there be more than one winner?

Bill Belichick was asked on Wednesday about the possibility of using two of Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer in Week 1. The Patriots coach said it is “certainly” something he would consider if it’s best for the team.

Newton is obviously the most talented of the three quarterbacks competing for the job. However, there are two concerns for the former NFL MVP — health and familiarity with the offense. Using Newton in tandem with Stidham or Hoyer in the early part of the season would be a way to keep Newton healthy and allow him to get up to speed with the offense.

The lack of preseason games also complicates things for the Patriots. Belichick has to make a decision based solely on training camp practices, which don’t necessarily translate to actual games. A two-quarterback system to start the season could serve as an extension of the QB battle.

Stidham and Hoyer have looked more comfortable with the offense than Newton in practice, which was expected. However, Stidham did have a brutal stretch of play on Tuesday. Week 1 is quickly approaching, and Belichick is clearly leaving all options on the table.

Cam Newton separating from Jarrett Stidham in QB competition?

Cam Newton

The New England Patriots are holding an open competition between their three quarterbacks that is in all likelihood going to be won by either Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham, but the two may be trending in opposite directions early on in training camp.

Stidham had a brutal practice on Tuesday. The second-year QB threw three interceptions in just 11 pass attempts as he split reps evenly with Newton and Brian Hoyer. The three picks came in the span of five throws, and there was no indication that any of them were tipped balls.

You could argue that practice doesn’t mean much, but it is more important than ever this offseason. Quarterback competitions typically play out in preseason games, but those have all been canceled. That means Patriots coach Bill Belichick will have to choose a Week 1 starter based on training camp alone, so Stidham can’t have too many days like Tuesday if he wants to win the job. He looked more comfortable than Newton on Monday, but Belichick will want to see progression rather than regression.

Newton also threw an interception, but he completed 9-of-12 passes with two drops.

Newton is still familiarizing himself with New England’s offense, but Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald said Monday that teammates have credited the former NFL MVP with revitalizing the locker room.

While there have been indications that Stidham has a better chance at winning the starting job than some believe, Belichick is unlikely to play favorites. The Patriots signed Newton because of his enormous potential — not because they want him as a backup.

Report: Cam Newton showing ‘exceedingly positive’ signs in Patriots camp

Cam Newton

Cam Newton sounds ready to have a huge season for the New England Patriots, if reports are to be believed.

Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reported Friday that he continues to hear “exceedingly positive” information about Newton out of Patriots’ camp, both physically and mentally. He went on to predict a major bounce-back season for the veteran quarterback, and expects New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to “unleash and unlock” Newton.

Newton is ostensibly in a competition for the starting job with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer, but few expect anyone to beat him to the role. That’s especially true with Bill Belichick offering some rare public praise early on in camp.

Newton says he feels great. All indications are that he’s not lying. After an injury-riddled 2019, there are certainly reasons to believe that he could have a very big campaign ahead of him.

Bill Belichick shares what he has seen from Cam Newton thus far

Cam Newton

Bill Belichick got his first real up-close look at Cam Newton this week, and it seems like the New England Patriots head coach has been impressed with what little he has seen.

Belichick, who is typically hesitant to praise players early in the year, shared some of his thoughts on Newton with reporters on Friday. While he didn’t go into specifics, Belichick said Newton is a “hard-working kid” who has absorbed a lot of information already.

“A lot of information has been transferred to all the players, and he’s worked very hard, I’d say as all of our players have,” Belichick said, via Ryan Hannable of “We have a hard-working group. Those guys are ready to go. We’ve put in some long days, and they’ve been very attentive throughout the process.”

Belichick praised all of the quarterbacks on the Patriots’ roster and said they have been “locked in” during an unusual offseason.

“When they all get in the huddle, everybody has a lot of confidence in what they’re able to do and the information they have to give to the team — play-calling, adjustments, audibles, protection adjustments, things like that. That’s all gone pretty well. But again, we haven’t played at anywhere near the speed that we’re going to be playing at, so we’ll see how it comes together at that point.

“But Cam’s a hard-working kid. He really is.”

Newton is easily the favorite to win the starting job out of training camp, especially with all the promising reports we have heard about his health. The former NFL MVP is playing under an incentive-laden contract and extremely motivated to prove he can still be an elite starter. He’ll have to earn everything under Belichick, however, and one former Patriot questions if the two will be a good fit.

Assuming good health, Newton’s success in New England will come down to how firm of a grasp he can get on the offense in a challenging offseason. He seems to be doing all the right things thus far.

Cam Newton shares promising update about his health

Cam Newton

Cam Newton was overlooked by numerous NFL teams this offseason in large part because he has suffered multiple significant injuries over the past two years, but the former MVP does not sound like he is anticipating being slowed ahead of Week 1.

Newton told reporters on Friday that he is a “full go” after undergoing foot and shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old said he has no limitations at the moment.

“As far as how I feel right now, I feel amazing,” Newton said, via Chris Mason of “I feel great. Probably not any different from any other person who’s in that locker room right now. So I’m extremely optimistic about that. But through it all, it’s just putting yourself in the position to be in the best shape and have your body in the best possible situation when you actually need it.”

The foot injury that knocked Newton out for the majority of the 2019 season was a Lisfranc injury, and those carry a strong risk of being re-aggravated. However, all reports have indicated that Newton is 100 percent healthy, and the Patriots probably would not have signed him otherwise.

Several people who know Newton believe he is poised to break out with the Patriots. His contract is loaded with incentives, so he will be plenty motivated to earn some extra money while proving he is still capable of being an elite quarterback.
