Derrius Guice could have domestic violence charges dropped

Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice might actually get the charges dropped in his domestic violence case.

Guice was released by Washington in August over the domestic violence charges he faced. The 23-year-old was originally facing five charges, including a felony strangulation charge. The felony charge was dropped by the county’s attorney in January. The other four charges include: three counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property.

However, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Guice and the victim reached an agreement in the case. The settlement, which typically includes a monetary amount, could result in the misdemeanor charges being dropped. A judge would have to approve the settlement and agree to have the charges dropped.

The victim accused Guice of strangling her to the point of unconsciousness. She also accused him of pushing her and smashing her phone.

Guice, 23, entered the league as a second-round draft pick in 2018, but only appeared in five games for Washington. He suffered a torn ACL in his first preseason game, costing him the entire 2018 season. His 2019 was shortened by both the MCL sprain and a torn meniscus that cost him most of the first half of the year.

Guice tallied 245 yards and two touchdowns on 42 rushing attempts last season.

LSU banning Derrius Guice and erasing stats from school records

Derrius Guice

LSU is trying to clean up its athletics program, and it’s starting by taking strong action against former running back Derrius Guice.

According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, LSU intends to ban Guice indefinitely from associating with the school’s athletic program. In addition, LSU intends to remove Guice from the school’s record books.

Guice was accused of rape in two separate instances as a freshman. The allegations were not investigated by LSU despite claims that multiple members of the coaching staff were aware of them. Guice later faced three allegations of domestic violence in 2020, which essentially ended his NFL career.

Guice ranks fifth in LSU history with 3,074 career rushing yards and is tied for seventh with 29 career rushing touchdowns. He also has two of LSU’s top ten single-season rushing tallies. His 285-yard game against Texas A&M in 2016 represents the school’s single-game rushing record, and he holds three of the top four rushing games in school history. LSU intends to wipe all of that from its records.

The moves are part of LSU’s effort to make major changes in light of an internal investigation that found a number of failures on the school’s part in reporting and investigating allegations relating to members of the athletic program. That included former coach Les Miles, and it ultimately cost him his job at Kansas.

Ed Orgeron addresses report about his knowledge of alleged Derrius Guice rape

Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice was accused of raping multiple women while at LSU in an explosive report that was published this week, and some questions were raised about how much Ed Orgeron knew. The Tigers head coach says he had no knowledge of the alleged assaults.

Two women told USA Today that they were sexually assaulted by Guice when the running back was a freshman in 2016. One anonymous former LSU football recruit says he was dating one of the victims at the time, and he steered clear of Guice during his redshirt freshman season because he “probably would have lost my (expletive) on him.” The former player also claimed Orgeron spoke with him about the alleged sexual assault a year after it happened.

“(Orgeron) said, ‘Everybody’s girlfriend sleeps with other people,’” the former LSU player told USA Today.

The player said he is unaware of how Orgeron found out about the alleged sexual encounter between his then-girlfriend and Guice. He does, however, believe Orgeron knew it was not consensual and says he “lost all respect” for the coach.

Orgeron issued a statement on Thursday night addressing the USA Today report. He said he will not reveal the full details of his conversation with the anonymous former player, but added that “any insinuation that I had knowledge of his girlfriend and Derrius Guice is completely false.”

Multiple members of the LSU coaching staff were reportedly informed about the sexual assaults, but the university never conducted an official investigation.

Guice was released by the Washington Football Team earlier this month following a domestic violence arrest. The details from that incident were quite disturbing. Between the arrest and the LSU allegations, his days in the NFL may be over.

Derrius Guice accused of raping two women while at LSU

Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice apparently had off-field issues long before the Washington Football Team released him earlier this month.

An investigation from Kenny Jacoby and Nancy Armour of USA Today revealed that Guice was accused of raping two women while he was at LSU in 2016. The incidents took place just months apart. The two former LSU students came forward with their allegations, but the school did not formally investigate them.

Guice’s attorney, Peter D. Greenspun, denied the allegations in a statement.

“At no time were allegations of physical or sexual assault brought against Derrius during his years as a student athlete at LSU,” Greenspun said. “To bring up such assertions only after the Virginia charges were initiated certainly calls into question the credibility, nature and timing of what is being alleged years later.”

USA Today began investigating the 2016 allegations days before Guice was arrested on domestic violence charges. One of the victims, a former LSU tennis player, spoke at length with an investigator for Washington on Aug. 6 — the day before Guice was arrested and released.

Both women said Guice sexually assaulted them in their own apartments after nights that involved heavy alcohol consumption. One woman said Guice raped her while she was sleeping after showing up to her party uninvited earlier that night. The other, the tennis player, said Guice raped her when she invited him home after meeting him at a bar.

USA today shared extensive details of the allegations. Neither woman reported the incidents to law enforcement, though the allegations were shared with at least two coaches, an athletics administrator and a nurse.

The details from Guice’s domestic violence arrest were quite disturbing and likely were enough to warrant being cut. The LSU allegations may have played a role in the decision as well.

Disturbing details from Derrius Guice’s domestic violence arrest emerge

Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice was released by the Washington Football Team on Friday following a domestic violence arrest, and we now know some of the disturbing details from the alleged incident.

Guice’s girlfriend told police that the running back choked her until she was unconscious, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The victim says Guice was next to her crying and tapping her when she regained consciousness. That was one of three alleged incidents that took place between Feb. 14 and April 17.

In the Feb. 14 incident, Guice’s girlfriend says she popped a blood vessel after Guice “pushed her to the ground in his bedroom bathroom, causing injury to her left thumbnail where she caught her fall.” The woman says the choking took place on March 13 and that Guice physically assaulted her multiple times that day. Then, on April 17, the woman says Guice pushed her to the ground outside his home in Virginia and she took photographs of her injuries. She also said Guice threw her cell phone in the street and caused it to shatter.

Guice is facing five charges in total, including assault and battery, felony strangulation and destruction of property. The felony strangulation charge alone carries a penalty of up to five years in prison if Guice is convicted.

The 23-year-old entered the league as a second-round draft pick in 2018, but he only appeared in five games for Washington. Guice suffered a torn ACL in his first preseason game, costing him the entire 2018 season. Guice turned himself in to authorities at Loudoun Adult Detention Center according to the Washington Post. He is facing five charges total, including a felony strangulation charge. The other four charges include: three counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property.

Guice was not at Washington’s practice on Friday.

After two injury-hit seasons, Derrius Guice is set to go for 2020 and will be looking for better luck on the health front.

Guice said on Twitter Monday that he had officially been cleared for 2020 after recovering from the MCL sprain that ended his 2019 season early.

Redskins RB Derrius Guice not practicing social distancing

Derrius Guice

Doctors and officials have been stressing the importance of social distancing as the coronavirus outbreak continues to worsen across the United States, but at least one NFL player does not seem overly concerned about potentially contracting or spreading COVID-19.

Despite numerous warnings to avoid any unnecessary gatherings or interactions with other people, Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice shared a photo on social media Wednesday night that showed him hanging out with at least six other people on a yacht. It’s unclear if there were others on the boat, but those in the photo certainly didn’t seem concerned about keeping their distance from one another. Guice defended himself in response to critics by saying the “rules” prohibit gatherings of 10 people or more, but he later deleted the tweet.

Government officials at the federal and state level have repeatedly asked people to adhere to guidelines for preventing the spread of the coronavirus, and those include avoiding social gatherings. Photos like the one we saw from Guice are what ultimately lead to stricter shutdowns, such as the “shelter in place” policy they’re currently using in San Francisco and other areas.

Guice’s decision to hang out with a group of friends and post it on social media is not unlike what we saw with former Ms. Nevada State’s defiant tweet about social distancing.

Derrius Guice criticized for posting photo with Donald Trump

Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice tried to put politics aside and express excitement for a recent opportunity he got to meet the President of the United States, and the reaction the Washington Redskins running back got probably won’t surprise you.

Guice, who played at LSU from 2015-2017, accompanied the Tigers on their White House trip to meet Donald Trump earlier this month. The former second-round pick shared a photo from the visit on Twitter and said it was an “honor” to meet the president regardless of political views.

While Trump is extremely unpopular among many pro athletes and their teams, the point Guice was making seemed to be that he never imagined himself standing in the Oval Office given his background. He grew up in a very impoverished area of Baton Rouge and lost his father at age 6. However, many felt that was not a good enough reason to pose with Trump.

Here are the two most “liked” responses to Guice’s photo:

Guice held his ground despite the backlash.

LSU’s visit to the White House included a very awkward speech from Trump, and that was hardly a surprise to many of the president’s detractors. Still, Guice can’t be the first player who was proud to take a photo in the Oval Office.

10 biggest disappointments of NFL Week 14

We’re in the final quarter of the NFL season, and Sunday’s games did not disappoint. The highlight was an unexpected shootout in New Orleans, but there was a lot to watch across the league, and a lot of standout performances.

There were also some underwhelming performances. Here is a list of those who fell short in Week 14 — some unexpectedly, some at a very bad time.

Referees in the Patriots-Chiefs game

The performance of the referees in Sunday’s game in Foxboro was nothing short of baffling. The clearest issue was an officiating crew costing the Patriots two touchdowns with missed calls. One came on a blown whistle to stop what would have been a defensive score, which has been a repeat problem this season. It’s disappointing seeing this continue to happen this late into the season, and the errors are consequential, too, though some would say it’s karma for the Pats.

Russell Wilson, QB, Seahawks

Wilson has been putting together an MVP-caliber season for the Seahawks this year, but he fell short of that standard on Sunday night. For the first time this season, Wilson failed to throw a touchdown in a game. He was 22/36 for 245 yards and an interception in the 28-12 loss to the Rams. Wilson was sacked five times in the game. Seattle failed to keep pace with the 49ers in the NFC West and is now a wild card team.
