Twitter reacts to Devin Booker torching Ben Simmons after ‘best defender’ claim

Devin Booker

Ben Simmons’ claim about being the best defender in the NBA took less than 48 hours to age pretty poorly.

Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers faced Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. With Simmons as his primary defender, Booker exploded for 36 points on 14-for-23 shooting as Phoenix won the game 120-111.

Twitter then came at Simmons with the meme treatment, especially since Simmons had just been talking up his elite defense after the last game that the Sixers played.

Adding another juicy layer of complexity to the matchup was the fact that Booker is currently dating Kendall Jenner, who is Simmons’ ex-girlfriend. That much was certainly not lost on Twitter either.

Between Simmons’ “best defender” claim and the amount of time Booker has been spending with Jenner lately, he probably made it a point to come out on Saturday with a vengeance

No, Devin Booker was not disrespecting Giannis Antetokounmpo with postgame comment

Devin Booker

A quote from Devin Booker about Giannis Antetokounmpo went viral after his Phoenix Suns beat the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night, but the quote looks much worse than it is.

Antetokounmpo had 47 points in the game, but he missed a mid-range jumper at the buzzer as Milwaukee lost 125-124.

Some questioned the wisdom of Antetokounmpo taking that shot rather than a better outside shooter like his Bucks teammate, Khris Middleton.

The viral quote came after the game from Booker, who said he felt Phoenix was in good shape when Giannis pulled up from midrange.

The quote looked on the surface like Booker was disrespecting Giannis. However, the context softens things.

Booker was saying that it was Phoenix’s strategy to try and keep Giannis out of the paint and force him to an outside shot. They were successful in executing their strategy, which is why he was happy.

It’s not exactly breaking news that Antetokounmpo is a beast attacking the basket and that it’s good practice to try and keep him out of the paint. But that’s not easy to do, which is why defenses should feel happy when they are able to do it.

Devin Booker has interesting request about his name

Devin Booker

Devin Booker shared an interesting request about his name via Twitter on Tuesday.

Booker, who is entering his sixth season in the NBA, said that he prefers to be called “book” or “dbook” rather than his first name of Devin.

That’s an easy enough request. Many people already knew his nickname was “book,” so that’s easy to follow.

Booker made his first All-Star team last season and has averaged 26.6 points per game in consecutive seasons. His Phoenix Suns made a huge addition this offseason too and seem like they mean business when it comes to taking a step forward.

The Suns went 34-39 last season and were 8-0 in the restarted season in the Orlando bubble. That has given them a lot of confidence entering the upcoming season. Book — or DBook if you prefer — will be a big driver in their success.

Report: Devin Booker does not actually want out of Phoenix

Devin Booker

Devin Booker’s alleged discontent in Phoenix may ultimately be overblown.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported on Friday that there is “no truth” to the Suns guard supposedly wanting out. Scotto notes that several executives believe that Booker will stay put due to his contract situation and his talent as a young franchise cornerstone.

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix also strongly disagreed with the notion that Booker wants a trade, calling the rumor “garbage.”

Whispers emerged this week that Booker, 24, was unhappy in Phoenix and even that the situation might get ugly. But he has a whopping four years and $131 million left on his contract, making a trade all but impossible. The Suns are also trending upwards, having gone undefeated in the Orlando bubble and complementing Booker with quality young pieces like Deandre Ayton and Kelly Oubre.

Booker is an All-Star who averaged 26.6 points per game last season. Thus, the vultures will obviously be circling at the very first sign of trouble, even in the form of fellow NBA players. It does not appear though that there is any actual trouble here to worry about.

Devin Booker wants out of Phoenix and it could get ugly?

Devin Booker

Devin Booker has developed into one of the top scorers in the league, and the Phoenix Suns appeared to turn a corner in the NBA Bubble. They better have, because they could be in for some problems involving Booker otherwise, according to one analyst.

Ryen Russillo, an NBA analyst for The Ringer, joined “The Bill Simmons Podcast” for an episode that was published on Tuesday. In the episode, the two discussed the urgency to improve that some teams may feel.

The hosts were talking about the Suns when Russillo said there is some urgency due to Booker’s situation.

“They have to worry about the Booker thing. The worst-kept secret in the league is Booker already wants out of there,” Russillo said around the 1:04 mark. “And if it’s another bad season, I actually think that could get ugly.”

The Suns went 8-0 in the NBA Bubble, so they have a lot of momentum to build upon for next season. One of their first orders of business might be making sure Kelly Oubre remains with the team. They also might need to re-sign Aron Baynes.

Booker, 24, has averaged 26.6 points per game each of the last two seasons. He is under contract for another four seasons after signing a 5-year max contract. The last thing Phoenix wants is for him to force his way out. The best way to keep him is to field a competitive team. If they don’t, we know of at least one team that wants him.

Devin Booker, Kendall Jenner dating but not serious?

Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker has been spotted out publicly with Kendall Jenner multiple times in recent months, and it sounds like the two may be dating. The relationship is apparently not serious, however.

A source told Us Weekly on Sunday that Booker and Jenner are seeing each other but trying to keep things casual.

“Kendall and Devin are seeing each other, but aren’t serious and are just having fun with each other,” the insider told Us Weekly. “It’s easy because they get along well and he also gets along great with her family.”

Rumors of Booker and Jenner dating first popped up back in April, when they went on a road trip together in Arizona. They also went to a swanky restaurant in California together after the Suns were eliminated from the Orlando bubble.

Jenner has been linked to a number of NBA players, with Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons being one of the most recent. She also dated Blake Griffin a while back, which got the big man roasted during a comedy special.

The Suns went 8-0 in Orlando, and Booker averaged 30.5 points per game. He played so well that Draymond Green drew a tampering fine from the NBA for talking about him.

Devin Booker spotted out with Kendall Jenner after leaving NBA bubble

Devin Booker did everything he could in the seeding portion of the NBA restart, but unfortunately it was not enough for the Phoenix Suns to qualify for the playoffs. Even though he led the Suns to an 8-0 record in Orlando, Booker clearly is not sulking about being sent home early.

Booker was spotted out at the upscale Nobu restaurant in Malibu on Saturday night with Kendall Jenner, according to TMZ. The two have hung out in the past but claim they are just friends. Kendall’s sister Kylie was also at Nobu, so it doesn’t seem like Booker and Jenner were having a formal date.

That wasn’t the first instance where Booker and Jenner have spent time together, and naturally there has been speculation that they’re more than just friends. However, neither has confirmed that.

Suns respond to Draymond Green fine for comments on Devin Booker

Devin Booker

The Phoenix Suns posted a video response on Twitter to Draymond Green’s fine.

Green was fined $50,000 by the NBA for saying that Devin Booker is too good of a player to be stuck on the Suns.

Phoenix took note of the fine and posted a response, saying they have at least 50,000 reasons why they love Booker. The video included highlights of their star guard:

The Suns haven’t made the playoffs since 2009-2010 and haven’t had a winning season since 2013-2014. Booker has only known losing since going pro. But the Suns were fortunate enough to have been included in the NBA restart, and they are maximizing the opportunity.

They have gone 5-0 in Orlando and seem to be heading in the right direction. Maybe that is giving Booker confidence about believing in his organization. The organization obviously enjoys having him.

As for Draymond, he didn’t seem to mind his fine.

Draymond Green fined $50K for comments about Devin Booker

Draymond Green

Draymond Green has been fined by the NBA for the remarks he made about Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker while serving as a guest analyst for TNT.

The NBA announced on Sunday that Green has been fined $50,000. In the press release, the league referenced the stricter enforcement of tampering rules that begin prior to this season.

Green had high praise for Booker while serving as a guest analyst on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” Friday night. The Golden State Warriors star said playing for the Phoenix Suns is not good for Booker’s career and that Booker needs to go “somewhere he can play great basketball all the time and win.” TNT’s Ernie Johnson immediately pointed out that Green might be tampering. You can see a video of the exchange here.

Booker, 23, has been with the Suns since being drafted No. 13 overall by them in 2015. He is an explosive scorer and has averaged 26.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game this season. His Suns have gone 4-0 since the NBA restart. Booker has expressed some issues with the Suns’ chemistry in the past, but that did not stop him from signing a massive $158 million extension with them two years ago.

Draymond Green is likely facing a fine for tampering based on his comments about Devin Booker.

Green appeared in studio as a guest commentator on TNT Friday. When talking about the young Phoenix Suns star, he said something that could clearly be construed as tampering.

“Get my man out of Phoenix. It’s not good for him, it’s not good for his career. I need my man to go somewhere he can play great basketball all the time, and win,” Green said.

He was even asked if he was tampering and acknowledged that might be the case. Players and executives are not allowed to speak about players who are under contract with other teams.
