Jalen Ramsey says he will not hold out of training camp over contract

Jalen Ramsey

Jalen Ramsey essentially forced his way out of Jacksonville because the Jaguars would not give him the contract he was seeking, but the Pro Bowl cornerback does not plan to hold the Los Angeles Rams to the same standards — at least in the coming weeks.

During a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, Ramsey said he has no intention of holding out from training camp this summer even if the Rams do not sign him to a long-term extension. He expressed confidence that the two sides are on the same page and said he is not concerned about a deal getting done.

Ramsey is set to make $13.7 million under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract this season. The Rams have shelled out big money to players like Aaron Donald and Jared Goff, and they would not have traded two first-round picks to the Jaguars for Ramsey last season if they did not plan to do the same with him.

While he may have flamboyantly campaigned for a new contract during his time in Jacksonville, Ramsey said his disagreements with the Jags were about a lack of respect. He obviously feels differently about the Rams’ front office.

Leonard Fournette jokes about Jalen Ramsey-AJ Green fight

Leonard Fournette

Leonard Fournette may be on the trade block, but he’s still bonding with Jacksonville Jaguars fans and sharing funny memories.

Fournette joined a group of Jags fans for a Zoom call this weekend and talked about his best moment that he cherished with the team. He brought up the infamous 2017 fight between Jalen Ramsey and AJ Green.

“My best moment that I cherish was when Jalen got his a– whooped,” Fournette said. “I cherish that moment every day. I said Jalen, ‘rule number one, in the hood, why would you ever turn your back on someone? He put Jalen in a Kurt Angle lock, was choking the f— out of his a–.”

Fournette seemed to be joking and amused when reminiscing about the fight. The fight took place during Fournette’s rookie season and was sparked by some trash talk from Ramsey, of course.

When you hear Fournette share a memory like that, it’s no surprise he got into it with ex-teammate Jamal Adams last year. Fournette seems to love teammate fights.

The video of Fournette’s comments are below but contain profanity.

Jalen Ramsey wants Rams to make Darius Slay trade

Darius Slay

Jalen Ramsey has never been shy about voicing what he wants through the media, and he wants to play with another shutdown corner.

The Los Angeles Rams cornerback suggested that his team acquire Darius Slay from the Detroit Lions, adding that he was only having fun making the suggestion.

Slay certainly seemed into the idea.

Given the Rams’ cap issues and the fact that Slay will be expecting a big contract extension, this isn’t really a likely outcome. What is clear is Slay is available for trade, and with a year on his contract, the onus is on the Detroit Lions to either sign him long-term or move him on. The latter seems to be the likelier option, and it’s pretty clear that plenty of his peers will want him on their team.

Marcus Peters got in Jalen Ramsey, Rams’ faces after beating his former team

Marcus Peters Jalen Ramsey

Marcus Peters was all about revenge mode after his new team beat his old team on “Monday Night Football.”

Peters had eight tackles and an interception in the Baltimore Ravens’ 45-6 dominating win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night. After the game, he got in the face of Jalen Ramsey, the cornerback the Rams acquired after dealing away Peters to Baltimore.

Ramsey had to be restrained from going back after Peters:

Multiple reporters said Peters continued talking his trash after that and even in the tunnel after the game:

This is no surprise — Peters has always been a trash talker, and he definitely has the upper hand. He went from a team that had lost three in a row when they traded him, to a team that’s now won five in a row since he got there. Peters seems to have a thing for getting in verbal fights after games.

Jalen Ramsey asks Michael Vick for tips to stop Lamar Jackson

Jalen Ramsey

The Los Angeles Rams will be the next team to try to contain Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, but one of their key defenders is trying to get some extra information ahead of the game.

Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself with Michael Vick, asking in a caption what he’d do to stop “someone … kinda like yourself.”

Vick holds the record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a season, but Jackson is on pace to break it. Jackson is just over 200 yards away from crossing the 1,000 yard mark for the season, which he is sure to do barring injury or rest. In fact, nobody has held Jackson below 50 yards rushing since September, so the Rams are faced with quite the task.

If nothing else, this is a sign of just how much respect Jackson has from his peers. That’s especially something coming from Ramsey, who hasn’t exactly been one to easily praise opposing quarterbacks in the past.

Rams could trade Aqib Talib, others to free up money for Jalen Ramsey

Aqib Talib

The Los Angeles Rams will undoubtedly look to sign Jalen Ramsey to a long-term contract extension after they gave up significant draft assets to acquire him, and they may have to move on from another Pro Bowl cornerback in order to do that.

The Rams are open to trading veteran players prior to Tuesday’s deadline in order to free up money so they can sign Ramsey this offseason, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Aqib Talib is one Rams player who is in the final year of his contract, so there’s a chance he could be moved.

As Schefter notes, the Rams have had some discussions about trading Talib over the past few weeks, but the 33-year-old has been opposed. He is currently on injured reserve with a rib injury but will be eligible to return later in the season.

Although he does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, Talib has told at least one team that he would not show up for them if they acquired him in a deal. That obviously makes it difficult for the Rams to trade him, and it’s unclear if his stance will remain the same now that they have traded for Ramsey.

The Rams have been wheeling and dealing leading up to the deadline, so it would not be a surprise if they made another move or two. Talib helped them get the the Super Bowl last year, but he is likely not in the team’s future plans given his age, injury history, and the presence of Ramsey.

Report: Eagles were outbid by Rams in Jalen Ramsey trade talks

Jalen Ramsey

The Philadelphia Eagles were reportedly the runners-up in trade talks for Jalen Ramsey, but were simply unwilling to match what the Los Angeles Rams were willing to pay.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles offered first- and second-round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars and felt they had a shot at landing the coveted cornerback. The Rams, however, offered two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder, which ultimately was too good for Jacksonville to turn down.

The Jaguars gave the Eagles the opportunity to match the Rams’ offer, but Philadelphia opted not to do so.

Ultimately, the Eagles remain confident in their secondary, as several key members will be returning over the next few weeks. One Philadelphia player clearly felt that the team should have paid up, and they tried, but they just weren’t willing to go as far as the Rams did.
