Joey Bosa’s dad calls into sports talk show, thinks the NFL Combine is stupid

Like many other draft hopefuls, Joey Bosa was at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis during the week showing off for all 32 teams. It turns out that this is stressful for all members of the family, as evidenced by a phone call to CBS Sports Radio by, apparently, Joey Bosa’s father.

Eye on College Football’s Chip Patterson reports that a man calling himself John with a phone number registered to Bosa’s father John called in to rant about the Combine.

“I’m blowing off some steam,” John Bosa, a former NFL defensive lineman himself, told the Gresh Show on Saturday. “My cell phone might not be [good] because I’m on a beach — it’s a beautiful day in Ft. Lauderdale — but I’m a nervous wreck.

“He’s been training specifically for the combine since three days after the bowl game. The combine, as you know, it’s a very unrealistic group of exercises. It’s not something that a defensive end in college football trains for. They don’t train for a 40. They don’t train for a standing broad jumps. That’s not how football players train!”

Bosa actually raises some valid points here. You can glean some information from the NFL Combine, but ultimately every position is judged on something different. Not to mention the fact that the entire process sounds pretty stressful and annoying. We wonder if Bosa himself would echo his father’s comments.

Of course, given some of the questions Bosa has been asked in Indianapolis, one can hardly blame him for thinking this whole ordeal is rather silly.

The NFL Scouting Combine is either one of the more exciting parts of the league’s calendar or the most overrated depending on your point of view. Either way, it’s this week in Indianapolis and among the numerous activities NFL hopefuls go through are question and answer sessions which usually produce interesting questions and responses.

On Friday, it was Joey Bosa’s turn to field questions. The former Ohio State defensive end isn’t yet a first round draft pick, although he most certainly will. However, he’s already having to answer questions about the pressure on his future son to be a first round pick as well.

While much of the attention at the combine is on 40-yard dash times and individual drills, the interviews the players go through and questions they have to answer always provide entertaining moments. However, teams also have to beware of guys who might appear to be something they’re not.

Joey Bosa tweets apology after being ejected for targeting

Joey Bosa put together an impressive career at Ohio State. However, its ending is not the way he or Buckeyes fans planned.

Bosa was ejected during the first quarter of the Fiesta Bowl for targeting on this hit to Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer.

Many thought the call was harsh, but it was a pretty easy one for the officials to make and it prematurely brought to a close Bosa’s time at Ohio State. Later, the Second Team Associated Press All-American tweeted an apology.

Urban Meyer announced on Thursday Bosa would forego his senior season and declare for this year’s NFL Draft along with teammates Ezekiel Elliott and Cardale Jones. Bosa will likely be one of the top picks after his stellar career. It’s just a shame we didn’t get to see more of him in his final game at Ohio State.

Joey Bosa’s college career ends with targeting penalty, ejection (Video)

Ohio State’s star defensive end Joey Bosa saw his college career come to an end Friday on a targeting ejection against Notre Dame.

Bosa, who is likely to be a top pick in the NFL Draft, led with his head against Notre Dame quarterback Deshone Kizer during the Fiesta Bowl. You be the judge as to whether this warrants an ejection or not:

Unfortunately for Bosa, by rule, leading with the crown of the helmet is gonna get you tossed every time. Luckily for him, Ohio State was up 28-14 at halftime without him.

Joey Bosa, three others suspended one game by Ohio State

The Ohio State football team will open the 2015 season without its best defensive player and three others.

On Thursday, the Buckeyes announced that All-American defensive end Joey Bosa, H-backs Jalin Marshall and Dontre Wilson, and wide receiver Corey Smith have been suspended for the team’s Sept. 7 game at Virginia Tech due to unspecified violations of team rules. ESPN’s Joe Schad reports that the suspensions were the result of marijuana use and academic issues.

As Tim May of The Columbus Dispatch notes, most one-game suspensions stem from a second failed drug test for recreational drugs and/or not keeping up with school work. Any sanctions from performance-enhancing drug use are typically more severe.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said he has known about the violations for a while.

“I kind of knew about this for a little bit,” Meyer said. “The university and the athletic department has policies that I fully support. Whether it’s a sprained ankle or stuff [like a suspension], you try to create a culture and move forward. We lost Braxton Miller [last season] 10 days before our first game, we lost J.T. Barrett a week before the Big Ten championship game, and you just push forward. Get going, move forward.”

The biggest name among the list of suspensions is Bosa, who is the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He was considered a sure-fire top-five NFL draft pick if he decided to declare for the draft after this season, and it’s unclear if this will have any effect on his stock.

Joey Bosa sack celebration is a Twitter emoji shrug

Ohio State sophomore defensive end Joey Bosa is one of the best defensive linemen in the country. The guy also has a sack celebration that will resonate with the young folks.

After getting a sack in September against Cincinnati, Bosa did the shrug. Ohio State fan site Eleven Warriors captured a photo and tweeted it out along with the shrug emoji, and it went viral from there. Bosa took to it and says the fans liked it so much he stuck with it.

“It just happened,” Bosa said of the first shrug celebration via The Plain Dealer. “I guess a bunch of people liked it so I feel obliged, like I have to do it every time I get a sack.”

He also described it “little emogi. The little face like that.”

Here’s what he means:

The sack dance has become proprietary for Bosa; he even complained when he saw another player do it.
