Joffrey Lupul ticked at TSN for allowing adultery tweet on air

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul went off on TSN Monday after they allowed a tweet about him sleeping with a teammate’s wife on air during their coverage of the trade deadline.

The tweet was a silly one sent by a fan about Lupul supposedly having sex with Dion Phaneuf’s wife, actress Elisha Cuthbert.

The tweet made it on air because it was hashtagged with TSN’s “TradeCentre” request. The person who sent the tweet as a joke was mortified Monday morning and wanted to make it clear that it was just a joke. He also blamed TSN for not filtering the tweet and allowing it to make it on air.

Whatever the case, Lupul was not happy:

At least TSN apologized for the poor filtering job:

“Earlier today, an inappropriate and disrespectful tweet was erroneously aired. As soon as it was flagged, we immediately removed it. We’ve reached out to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and all those impacted to extend our sincerest apologies for our error. It should have never, ever gone to air.”

Whether it’s a tweet making it on air or an accusation of an athlete sleeping with a teammate’s wife, these sorts of thing happens all the time. Lupul should chill out.

Joffrey Lupul: Game 7 loss ‘will haunt me until the day I die’

Joffrey Lupul does not tweet very often. He has tweeted just over 1,100 times, and he hadn’t tweeted since April 23. The playoffs began on April 30. Lupul finally broke his three-week Twitter silence by sending this emotionally-charged message on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after his Toronto Maple Leafs blew a 4-1 3rd-period lead in Game 7 against the Boston Bruins:

Joffrey LupulThe Leafs are believed to be the first team to blow a 4-1 third period lead in Game 7 of a playoff series. They lost 5-4 in overtime, and that was after coming back from down 3-2 in the series.

Lupul’s actually had some crappy luck when it comes to the playoffs. In his second NHL season with the Anaheim Ducks, the team lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference finals. The Ducks traded him to Edmonton after the season, and the Ducks went on to win the cup while the Oilers missed the playoffs.

Lupul did not have a point in five of the seven playoff games against Boston.

Joffrey Lupul denied reservations at Toronto restaurant because of lockout

joffrey-lupulToronto Maple Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul vented his frustration over Twitter on Sunday after being denied reservations at a Toronto restaurant because of the NHL lockout.

Lupul was apparently trying to dine at Real Sports, which the National Post describes as a “popular team-created establishment next to the Air Canada Centre.” The restaurant is owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which runs the Leafs.

The NHL players are not allowed to associate with their teams during the lockout, and apparently that ban extends to team-owned restaurants. An understandably frustrated Lupul deleted that tweet and wrote this follow-up message:

The NHL players are considering dissolving the union, which is a strategy the NFLPA used during the NFL lockout. We’re hoping the labor issue is resolved in time to have a half-season. In the meantime, Lupul will just have to find another restaurant in Toronto where he can grab a burger and fries, or whatever it was he planned to order.
