Rockets suspend Kevin Porter Jr, Christian Wood for incident with coach

Kevin Porter Jr on the court

Kevin Porter Jr. and Christian Wood both reportedly threw temper tantrums after Houston Rockets assistant coach John Lucas III called them out during Saturday night’s game, and the team has disciplined the two players for their actions.

Both Porter and Wood have been suspended for Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon.

Porter only played 16 minutes in Houston’s 124-111 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. He left the Toyota Center at halftime and drove home after he was upset about being called out by Lucas, according to reports. Lucas challenged Porter and other players during halftime, and Porter responded by throwing an object and leaving the arena.

Lucas also reportedly challenged Wood’s effort, which upset the big man. Wood did not start the game for disciplinary reasons. He then refused to sub in during the second half.

The Rockets are 10-27 and have lost seven straight games. They have struggled since James Harden forced a trade last year. The incidents involving Porter and Wood indicate they may have even bigger issues than their losing record, though Porter is known for being somewhat of a headcase.

Porter has long had attitude and maturity issues. He was traded away by Cleveland to Houston in the first place due to an outburst. The Rockets have now witnessed his erratic behavior first-hand.

Headcase Kevin Porter Jr. ditched Rockets at halftime of loss, drove home

Kevin Porter Jr on the court

Kevin Porter Jr. is a talented player but notorious for being a headcase. His questionable behavior was on display yet again on Saturday night.

Porter only played 16 minutes in his Houston Rockets’ 124-111 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. That’s because he left the Toyota Center at halftime and drove home after he was upset about being called out by a coach, according to reports.

Shams Charania says Rockets assistant coach John Lucas III challenged Porter and other Rockets players at halftime. Porter apparently grew upset, threw an object, and left the arena.

Porter wasn’t the only Rockets player to have issues.

Lucas apparently challenged Christian Wood over the big man’s effort. Wood, who did not start the game due to a disciplinary reason, reportedly refused to sub in during the second half.

Houston is now 10-27 and has lost seven in a row. The Rockets have struggled since James Harden forced a trade last year.

Porter has long had attitude and maturity issues. He was traded away by Cleveland to Houston in the first place due to an outburst. You can’t say the Rockets weren’t warned about Porter’s behavior.

New Lakers assistant jokes about taking revenge on LeBron James

LeBron James

Nine years after getting humiliated by LeBron James on national television, John Lucas III is finally getting his chance for revenge.

Lucas, who was just hired by the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant coach, made a funny reference to his history with James in an Instagram post this weekend. Lucas was on the receiving end of a James poster in 2012. It was a particularly vicious one, as James jumped clean over Lucas for the dunk.

The now 38-year-old Lucas posted a picture of the moment and joked that he was going to make James run extra laps in practice.

“Man it just hit me that I will be coaching @kingjames the very man who jumped over me in a game,” Lucas wrote. “He going to have to do extra laps in practice for this.”

The four-time MVP James has put many a man on a poster in his 18 years in the NBA. Perhaps the Lakers should hire this guy as an assistant next so he can get his revenge on James as well.

New Lakers assistant has memorable history with LeBron James

LeBron James

The newest assistant coach of the Los Angeles Lakers should be plenty familiar to LeBron James and vice versa.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported on Saturday that the Lakers have hired former NBA guard John Lucas III to join coach Frank Vogel’s staff. The 38-year-old had a journeyman career, both in the NBA and overseas, before becoming an assistant for the Minnesota Timberwolves in recent years.

You might also remember Lucas for another reason. He was unfortunately on the receiving end of a memorable James dunk back in 2012. James, who was then with the Miami Heat, jumped clean over Lucas, a member of the Chicago Bulls, to convert an alley-oop slam.

Along with his poster dunks on Tim Duncan in 2006, on Kevin Garnett in 2008, and on Jason Terry in 2013, James’ jam over Lucas (which you can see video of here) is one of the most iconic dunks of his entire career. You can be sure that James will remind Lucas of that much during their first practice together in Los Angeles.
