Justin Thomas hits back at fan who called him out over 3-putt

Justin Thomas found himself near the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the WGC-Mexico Championship on Thursday, and the 66 he shot would have been even better if not for a few uncharacteristic mistakes. Thomas mocked himself over some of those, but he seemed annoyed when a fan got in on the fun.

The highlight and lowlight of Thomas’ opening round both came on the 12th hole, when he drove the green with a monster 415-yard drive. He then 3-putted for a par after having a chance at an eagle.

Thomas clearly knows he blew a great opportunity to shoot an even better score, but his acknowledgement didn’t stop one Twitter follower from asking how he let that happen. Thomas has a very literal — albeit sarcastic — response.

While he has quickly emerged as one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour, Thomas has a tendency to let fans get under his skin. That Twitter interaction wasn’t nearly as awkward as the exchange he had with Rick Reilly at the Ryder Cup last year, but it’s the type that has led to people thinking Thomas needs to let more stuff go in one ear and out the other.

Rick Reilly has painfully awkward exchange with Justin Thomas

Rick Reilly has a long and distinguished history of striking out with some of his attempts at humor, and things were no different for the renowned sportswriter at the Ryder Cup on Wednesday.

Reilly decided to crack what he clearly felt would be a funny joke when Justin Thomas was answering questions, and he asked the 25-year-old how much “shame” he feels with having his father be a sportswriter. Thomas clearly didn’t get it.

Thomas comes from a long line of fantastic golfers, as his grandfather played professionally and his father, Mike, has been the head pro at Harmony Landing Country Club in Kentucky for nearly 30 years. What Reilly was likely referring to is Mike Thomas serving as a guest writer for the Courier Journal during the Ryder Cup, but the joke flew over Justin’s and everyone else’s head.

Coming from a guy who has been known to steal jokes in the past, we’re not surprised Reilly heard crickets.

Justin Thomas discusses feeling ‘Tiger Effect’ for first time

Tiger Woods

The Tiger Woods Effect is real.

Justin Thomas was among the golfers high up on the leaderboard throughout the weekend at the PGA Championship in St. Louis. So was Tiger Woods, which apparently created a different environment at Bellerive Country Club.

Thomas talked with CBS after his final round 68 and talked about how much different the atmosphere was with Woods in the mix to win it.

“The roars were pretty unbelievable,” Thomas said of the fans. “I was fortunate to be making some of them for myself. A lot of them were for him, for Brooks (Koepka) and Adam (Scott). … This was the first real kind of a ‘Tiger Effect’ that I’ve experienced — that many people. The fans here were unbelievable all week, and it was fun to play in front of.”

Just having Tiger in contention led to a surge in fan excitement. After he charged to within one of the leader early in the back nine on Sunday, Twitter erupted with enthusiasm.

Between his showing at The Open Championship and the PGA Championship, this will go down as Woods’ best finish at consecutive majors since 2010.

Justin Thomas: Francesco Molinari is ‘hottest player on the planet’

Francesco Molinari

The praise keeps rolling in for Francesco Molinari.

After the 35-year-old captured his first major with a win at The Open Championship on Sunday, colleague Justin Thomas called Molinari “the hottest player on the planet.”

The words could not be truer. Though he finished 25th at the US Open, Molinari won the BMW PGA Championship in May, the Quicken Loans National in late June/early July, finished second at the John Deere Classic last week, and won The Open.

Justin Thomas, girlfriend Jillian Wisniewski know how to have a good time

Justin Thomas kept himself in the hunt all week at the PGA Championship, and it’s probably safe to assume his better half was on pins and needles as the drama unfolded.

Thomas and his girlfriend, Jillian Wisniewski, are no strangers to a good time. The four-time winner on the PGA Tour has shared a number of posts on social media proudly bragging about Wisniewski’s good looks, and the couple has taken plenty of vacations together since they started dating.

Thomas, a self-proclaimed momma’s boy, also revealed recently that Wisniewski shares a birthday with his mother.

Wishing a very happy birthday to both of my ladies! And here's to momma still looking that young ??

But you know how we really know Wisniewski must be “the one” for Thomas? She joined Thomas on one of the many bro trips he takes with some of his golf buddies when she and some other ladies went to the Bahamas with Thomas, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth, among others. If that’s not love, we don’t know what is.

Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas sink back-to-back holes-in-one (Video)

How often do you see two golf balls in the same cup at a PGA-sanctioned event? Probably never, but we were treated to an incredibly rare phenomenon at the Masters Par 3 contest on Wednesday.

Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas drained back-to-back aces on the Par 3 course at Augusta National. You can see the videos below:

There a lots of holes-in-one at the Masters Par 3 contest for obvious reasons, but that was pretty remarkable. If you remember what happened last year at the same event, you’ve probably become a big fan of Wednesday at Augusta.
