Giants Go for Kazoo Record in Honor of Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia

For some reason many professional sports teams this year have decided to take advantage of having so many people in the same place at the same time. The Cavaliers held a snuggie night and then the Angels later broke their record of most people wearing a fleece blanket at the same gathering. The Dodgers shot for a different record — loudest and longest scream in promotion of an Ozzy Osbourne album, but that project failed. On Monday night in San Francisco, the Giants held a 7th inning stretch tribute to Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia who had died 15 years earlier.

7,000 fans were instructed to play “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” on their kazoos in an effort to set a Guinness World Record. Some people are calling the kazoo record attempt a dud, but it actually sounded pretty good to me. Check out this fan video to make the determination for yourself:

Okay, maybe that was kind of weak sauce, but they at least deserve a spot in the record book for creativity, don’t they? We at least know what Bill Walton’s answer would be. By the way, unlike ‘Nam, there are rules to setting a kazoo record. Check em out below, you’ll never believe this:
