Lamar Odom’s father, Joe Odom, has been banned from visiting his son in the hospital, and he is not happy about it.
TMZ caught up with Joe Odom Wednesday night outside Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and the elder Odom ranted about not being on the list of visitors who are allowed to see Lamar.
“I’m upset because this is the second time I came to see my son and they won’t let me see my son,” Odom said. “It’s a lot of sabotage things going on. Why can’t I see my son? I brought him in the world. I’m highly upset right now.”
Odom said NBA free agent Danny Granger’s father brought him to the hospital earlier in the week and he was turned away then, too.
“They’re saying I’m not on the visiting list. … They let other people see my son that aren’t even related to him,” he said.
Odom went on to say that Khloe Kardashian is in charge of making the visitor’s list for Lamar. Joe claims he saw Lamar “every other day” in Las Vegas before Lamar was admitted to the hospital.
Lamar has had some disturbing things to say about his relationship with his father in the past, so it’s hard to take Joe at his word. When Joe spoke out against the Kardashians two years ago, Lamar blasted him on Twitter and said his father was never there for him growing up.
“Won’t continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick. I have let this man and many others get away with a lot of (expletive),” Odom wrote, via The Huffington Post. “He wasn’t there 2 raise me. He was absent ALL of my life due to his own demons. My mother and grandmother raised me. Queens raised me.”
Joe Odom has struggled with his own drug addiction. Lamar’s mother, Cathy Mercer, died of colon cancer when the former NBA star was 12.
We don’t doubt that Khloe is preventing Lamar’s father from visiting, but that doesn’t mean she is doing it against Lamar’s wishes. Given what we know about the relationship between Odom and his father and some of the medical complications Lamar is still having, it wouldn’t be surprising if he does not want to be around his dad.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom recently withdrew their divorce papers, but that does not mean they are rekindling their romantic relationship.
Kardashian has been with Odom since he suffered a drug overdose and nearly lost his life earlier this month. While the two have formally gone back on finalizing their divorce, Khloe recently told People Magazine that reports of the couple having reconciled are premature.
“It’s out in the media that we are back together, but I wish people understood that’s not in our thought process right now,” she said. “There are too many other important things, too many medical things. It’s not even in our brains thinking about us as a couple or having a relationship right now.”
Odom is reportedly struggling with his motor skills and speech as a result of multiple strokes he suffered. He is going to need months of rehab and may need another serious medical procedure for his kidneys.
There have been rumors that Odom is struggling financially, and Kardashian alluded to that being one of the reasons she called off the divorce.
“I’m not trying to get married tomorrow to anybody,” she said. “It’s just bad timing to proceed with (the divorce) right now. And also for medical reasons, it’s just smarter that gets on hold for a minute. But that does not mean I’m back with Lamar. That’s a whole other thing that only time will tell. I can’t tell you what tomorrow brings.”
Kardashian added that her relationship with Odom is “the same” as it was before and that it is “not anything sexual or intimate.” She recently called off her relationship with another NBA player she had been dating for several months.
Odom’s medical bills could very well reach into the millions. He could also end up facing legal trouble after he reportedly tested positive for cocaine, and we know the owner of the brothel Odom was found unconscious at has threatened to sue Kardashian for Lamar’s hefty tab.
Odom needs all the help he can get. His marriage probably isn’t at the forefront of his thinking as he continues to fight for his life.
Lamar Odom could reportedly be facing charges after his blood tested positive for cocaine following his admission to a Las Vegas hospital more than two weeks ago.
TMZ reports that the Nye County Sheriff’s Department requested its own blood test on Odom, which is standard procedure when a drug overdose is suspected. Sheriff Sharon Wehrly previously said that it was “distinctly possible” that Odom could be prosecuted if it was determined that he had drugs in his system. As expected, the test came back positive for cocaine.
Odom obviously has much bigger things to worry about than legal trouble at the moment, as he has reportedly been having issues with his motor skills and speech because of the numerous strokes he suffered. He also could need at least one more major medical procedure if some of his organs continue to fail.
Odom supposedly promised Khloe Kardashian he is done using drugs, which is why she decided to have her lawyer officially withdraw the couple’s divorce papers. And since the two are still married, it’s possible Khloe could be on the hook for the money Odom owes the Love Ranch in Nevada.
Lamar Odom reportedly suffered numerous strokes shortly after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel roughly two weeks ago.
While Odom has shown signs of progress in recent days, various reports indicate he is not yet out of the woods. According to TMZ, Odom has a long way to go with both his motor skills and speech as a result of 12 strokes he suffered early on in his medical emergency. Odom will need to undergo months of physical therapy. It is unclear if the strokes caused any permanent damage.
Odom is still expected to survive, but it appears he is going to need at least one major medical procedure. TMZ also reported earlier in the week that the former NBA star has undergone two emergency surgeries in the hospital which have left him in a “fragile mental state.”
Odom and Khloe Kardashian have withdrawn their divorce papers, and Odom has reportedly told Khloe he is done with drugs. The couple may also be facing some legal issues as a result of Odom’s overdose.
Lamar Odom reportedly spent $75,000 at a Nevada brothel in the days leading up to his near-death experience, and the owner of the establishment is concerned he is not going to get his money.
Dennis Hof, who runs the Love Ranch South, told Radar Online this week that Odom paid the $75,000 tab with a credit card. It’s unclear what Odom’s current financial situation is, but Hof says he has no problem going after Khloe Kardashian if the payment doesn’t go through.
“If I don’t get paid for the entire bill, I’ll sue Khloe,” Hof said. “I know she has the money. We have Lamar on tape signing the credit card statement — we have a copy of his driver’s license — he was the one that determined the $75K price for the two hookers.”
Odom spent three days at the Love Ranch before he was found unconscious in his room and rushed to a Las Vegas hospital. Hof said he is “saddened” by what happened to Odom but that the former NBA star still needs to “pay up.” As Hof pointed out, Odom and Kardashian are still married. In fact, Kardashian had her lawyer withdraw the divorce papers that the couple finalized a while back.
Odom’s priority is obviously his health at the moment, and he reportedly told Kardashian earlier this week that he is done using drugs. But between Hof making a fuss about his money and the possibility of police prosecuting Odom, there will be a lot of issues to sort through if he is fortunate enough to make a full recovery.
Lamar Odom’s primary concern at the moment is his health, but the former NBA star may also have to face some legal trouble going forward as a result of the alleged drug-fueled weekend that almost cost him his life.
According to TMZ, police obtained a search warrant to test Odom’s blood when he was receiving treatment at Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas. The detective who signed the affidavit interviewed prostitutes who had spent time with Odom at the Love Ranch, and they reportedly claimed they suspected Odom was using cocaine.
“He possibly ingested cocaine in the bathroom adjoining in the bedroom,” the detective said. “They indicated that they heard him snorting.”
Odom showed symptoms of a drug overdose when he was rushed to the hospital, which is why police needed a blood sample. Doctors reportedly found the presence of cocaine in his system, and that could lead to Odom being prosecuted when police receive the results of the blood sample they took.
Employees from the Love Ranch have not said anything about Odom publicly, likely because he had them sign confidentiality agreements when he began staying there. However, if you listen to some audio of the 911 call that was made on Odom’s behalf, it seems fairly obvious that he was under the influence of drugs.
Lamar Odom has reportedly been making progress over the last several days, and he is apparently able to communicate enough that he was able to swear off drugs.
TMZ reports that Odom acknowledged to Khloe Kardashian over the weekend that he understands he could have lost his life with his recent drug overdose. He reportedly promised Kardashian that he is “done with drugs,” which is when she made the decision to have her lawyer request that the couple’s divorce papers be thrown out.
Kardashian has called off her relationship with another NBA star and is said to be committed to reconciling with Odom. As our friend attorney Andrew Botros has informed us, that could wind up being a costly process.
We’re glad to hear that Odom is able to communicate enough to decide to reconcile with Khloe and swear off drug use, but there are still plenty of concerns going forward. For starters, some of the alleged behavior Odom exhibited at the Love Ranch would seemingly indicate that he has a serious drug problem. That isn’t going to be cured overnight, and he will likely need a lot of help with addiction in addition to undergoing physical and speech rehab. There is also some concern that he could need to undergo another major medical procedure.
Whether it’s by the side of Khloe or someone else, we hope Odom is finally able to get the help he desperately needs.
Khloe Kardashian withdrew her divorce papers from Lamar Odom on Wednesday and has also called off her relationship with James Harden. There is a good chance that, as I write this, either Lamar or Khloe’s divorce lawyer is repeatedly banging his/her head on their desk. I say this because, as a California divorce attorney who has represented professional athletes, I’ve seen this song and dance before and it usually results in significant financial injury to one of the spouses.
I should be very clear about something from the start. California divorce attorneys have a duty to help their clients repair their marriages, if possible. I take this duty very seriously. In Lamar’s case, I would tell him that I encourage him to follow his heart, but I would have him make sure he understands the implications of resuscitating the marriage. I would also advise him not to make such a consequential decision at a time when his health is strongly compromised.
So what’s the big deal exactly? In California, the two most crucial dates in determining spousal support and the size of the community estate are the date of marriage and the date of separation.
What does “date of separation” really mean? In California, it is the “final and complete break” in the marriage. It was pretty easy to argue that there was a final and complete break in the marriage when the divorce was first filed in 2013. Now that Lamar and Khloe are reconciling, we seem pretty darn far from a “final and complete break” in the marriage. It’s even a bigger deal considering that they were “separate” for a considerable period of time before the divorce was filed.
With exceptions, most marriages in California require the higher earning spouse to pay the lower earning spouse support for half the length of the marriage. In other words, for every two days the date of separation is pushed back, that is one day of additional support for the supported spouse. I don’t know what Odom and Kardashian’s prenuptial agreement says about spousal support, but it might not matter because if it’s a really bad deal for one of the parties at the time of divorce, the court could throw it out anyway. More on this later.
We talked about support. Let’s talk about community property.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom have decided to call off their divorce.
Kardashian’s lawyer Laura Wasser went before a judge Wednesday morning to ask that the divorce papers that were submitted by the couple back in July be withdrawn, TMZ reported. The papers had not yet been processed, and the judge reportedly granted the request.
Kardashian first filed for divorce back in 2013, but she did not seem to be in a hurry to get the papers finalized. Odom admitted last year that he wanted to try to save the marriage, but it appeared the relationship reached the point of no return when he suffered a drug relapse.
Given some of the medical updates we have received about Odom this week, it’s difficult to understand how he is in the proper state of mind to agree to withdraw the divorce papers. However, it seems like the former NBA star has always wanted to get back with Khloe, though there are rumors that the way he was portrayed in a recent episode of the Kardashians reality show may have pushed him over the edge.
Kardashian has vowed to be by Odom’s side while he undergoes months of physical and speech therapy. She recently called off her relationship with another NBA star she had been dating.
Lamar Odom has shown many signs of recovery over the past several days, but some of his vital organs are reportedly still failing.
TMZ reports that Odom’s kidneys are “shot” and doctors believe he could need a transplant. For now, Odom has been transferred to a hospital in Los Angeles and will undergo six hours of dialysis per day, but there is a good chance he will need new kidneys.
The good news is that Odom’s heart and some other organs have started to bounce back. He is not out of the woods, but he is expected to survive with months of rehab for both physical movement and speech.
Odom is likely to face plenty of complications going forward. That said, when you read the reports that were surfacing about his condition last week, you get an idea of how fortunate he is to still be alive.
