Logan Ryan says Giants’ medical staff helped save his wife’s life

Logan Ryan

New York Giants cornerback Logan Ryan shared an incredible story Wednesday about how the team doctor helped save his wife’s life.

According to Ryan via Jordan Ranaan of ESPN, Ryan’s wife Ashley was in Florida and experiencing stomach problems on Monday after the Giants lost to Tampa Bay. Giants trainer Justin Maher urged her to go to the hospital, where doctors discovered that she was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy.

Ashley Ryan’s condition required emergency surgery, and she is recovering. The Giants told Ryan he could fly to Florida at any time if he needed to.

This is a remarkable story, and Maher deserves well-earned thanks. His medical advice could have saved Ashley Ryan’s life. Logan Ryan will probably feel very relieved he signed with the Giants, especially when he was frequently linked to other teams during free agency last offseason.

Giants CB Logan Ryan has great quote about facing Tom Brady

Tom Brady Bucs

The New York Giants will face possibly their toughest challenge of the season on Monday night when they take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fortunately, veteran cornerback Logan Ryan knows the perfect way to prepare.

Ryan, who was teammates with Brady in New England for four seasons, was asked on Friday about facing the six-time Super Bowl champion. He compared it to trying to get through the final boss in a “Mario” video game.

Anyone born in the 1980s understands how frustrating it can be trying to get past the final boss in a Mario game, so that is actually a great analogy. Brady has been torturing opponents and crushing dreams for two decades now. In that sense, he’s not all that unlike Bowser.

Brady may be 43, but he once again has himself in the MVP discussion. He has thrown for 1,910 yards, 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions through seven games. Heck, even one of ESPN’s biggest boneheads recently admitted he was wrong about Brady. We should all pray for Ryan and the Giants’ defense on Monday night.

Giants DB Logan Ryan has ‘sick taste’ over tackle that injured Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott injury

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a gruesome ankle injury on Sunday, and it was New York Giants defensive back Logan Ryan who inflicted it. Like everyone else who witnessed what happened, Ryan was clearly very bothered by the injury.

Ryan dragged Prescott to the turf on a play in which Dak scrambled for nine yards. It was a clean tackle, but Prescott’s ankle bent awkwardly underneath him resulting in a compound fracture and dislocation. After the game, Ryan told reporters he feels “terrible” about the play.

“The worst thing that happened today was the Dak injury — bigger than football,” Ryan said. “I feel terrible. It was a routine football play. … I hope he gets $500 million when he comes back. He deserves it. He’s a hell of a quarterback.

“Obviously, there was no malicious intent there. I went through a similar injury a couple years ago (broke fibula). I just told him, ‘What would Kobe do?’ I hope he comes back. I hope he gets $500 million, he deserves it. That was the worst thing that happened today. I’ve got a sick taste in my stomach for it.”

Ryan was obviously referring to Prescott’s contract situation. The quarterback could not work out a long-term extension with the Cowboys prior to the season, so he is playing under the franchise tag this year. That has led to some concern about him not getting as much money next offseason as he would have before the injury.

Dez Bryant also alluded to Prescott’s contract when he issued a warning to Jerry Jones after the injury.

Prescott underwent surgery on Sunday night and it reportedly went well. He should make a full recovery, and he is young enough where the injury should not impact his free agency all that much. Still, it is a reminder that playing under a one-year deal always carries risk for a star player.

Logan Ryan gets $7.5 million contract from Giants

Logan Ryan

The top defensive back left on the free agent market has finally signed.

Logan Ryan has agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the New York Giants, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.

Ryan announced in May that he would not be returning to the Tennessee Titans. Teams like the Jets and Cleveland Browns were said to have interest in Ryan, but he remained unsigned.

Ryan recently changed agents and was informing teams that he wanted to play safety rather than cornerback.

The 29-year-old had 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 4 interceptions last season for the Titans. He became a free agent after playing out his 3-year, $30 million deal signed with Tennessee in 2017.

Giants safety Xavier McKinney has a foot injury, which means Ryan could slot in to their free safety position.

Report: Browns have interest in Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan has had a very quiet market this offseason, but that could be about to change.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, the Cleveland Browns have interest in Ryan. The defensive back’s $10 million asking price has been a problem, but the Browns would be interested at a lower price.

The Browns’ urgency may also be increased by Grant Delpit’s season-ending injury. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Ryan recently changed agents to Joel Segal, who also represents Delpit.

The 29-year-old defensive back was excellent for the Titans last season. He made a career-high 113 total tackles along with four interceptions and 4.5 sacks.

Interestingly, Ryan has some unpleasant history with Browns fans. That probably won’t stop him from signing if the money’s right.

5 NFL free agents who are likely to sign before training camp

Jadeveon Clowney

The 2020 free agency frenzy has long since passed in the NFL, with things slowing to an even more unusual crawl thanks in part to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, with the NFL set on opening training camps on schedule, we will likely see a run on remaining free agents in the coming weeks. And the good news for teams is that there are still plenty of quality — and in some cases, game-changing — players available for the picking.

Here’s a look at five current free agents who are likely to sign before training camps open.

5 best remaining NFL free agents

Cam Newton

June is here and NFL free agency was already a few months ago, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any good players available to NFL teams looking for late offseason upgrades. Multiple Pro Bowlers are still available as free agents, whether they were cut for cap reasons or simply haven’t found the right fit or contract for their liking. Plenty of other players remain unsigned as well.

Here are the five best players still available on the NFL free agent market.

Logan Ryan says he is ‘open for business’ despite Jets reports

Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan is one of the top free agents remaining on the market, and there were rumblings earlier in the week that the veteran cornerback is on the verge of signing with the New York Jets. From the sound of it, that is far from official.

During an appearance on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” Thursday, Ryan was asked about the New York Daily News report claiming the Jets expect to sign him to a one-year deal. Ryan said he would be open to playing for the Jets as someone who grew up in New Jersey, but he insists he has not agreed to a deal with any team yet.

“That would make sense for sure, but like I said I’m trying to do what’s best for my family and everything like that,” Ryan said. “Obviously there’s a lot of rumors out there. I can’t confirm any of it because I’m still not signed yet. We’ll see.

“I obviously want to get a deal done, and I’m open to it. I’m also open to 30 other franchises besides the Titans. That’s the only one I’ve ruled out so far. I’m completely open for business.”

Ryan said recently that he would have been willing to return to Tennessee on a one-year deal at $9.5 million like he made last season, so the Jets or any other team would likely have to pay him somewhere around that number.

Ryan would be a great addition to New York’s secondary at a time in the offseason when starting-caliber players are difficult to find. Ryan had 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 4 interceptions for Tennessee last season. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the New England Patriots after being drafted by them in the third round in 2013.

Report: Jets expect to sign Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan announced last week that he will not be re-signing with the Tennessee Titans, and the veteran cornerback appears to be on the verge of landing with a new team.

Manish Mehtha of the New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that the New York Jets expect to sign Ryan to a one-year deal. The Jets have reportedly been discussing Ryan for weeks and looking for ways to increase their available cash to sign the 29-year-old.

While the Jets still have plenty of salary cap space, Mehta notes that there have been cash-flow issues for the team. Ryan said this week that he would have been willing to return to Tennessee on a one-year deal at $9.5 million like he made last season, so the Jets will likely have to be him somewhere around that number.

Logan Ryan announces he will not re-sign with Titans

Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan announced on social media Tuesday that his time with the Tennessee Titans has come to an end.

Ryan is a free agent now after his 3-year, $30 million deal with the Titans expired. He said that he will not be re-signing with them.

The 29-year-old cornerback had 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 4 interceptions for Tennessee last season. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Patriots after being drafted by them in the third round in 2013.

Ryan is said to be open to signing a short-term contract. The Jets are a team that reportedly have had interest in him, though no deal has materialized yet.
