Lolo Jones apologizes for unfortunate Twitter exchange with Eric LeGrand

Lolo Jones came under scrutiny on Tuesday after responding to a Twitter challenge from paralyzed former football player Eric LeGrand with a few taunts.

LeGrand, who frequently tweets at other athletes, asked Jones if she wanted to race. Jones sent back a few taunting tweets before learning that LeGrand has been in a wheelchair since suffering a spinal cord injury in a 2010 Rutgers-Army game.

The Olympic hurdler began defending herself for the mishap and seemed to regret the gaffe, but she didn’t officially apologize until hours later.

“I’m truly sorry if I offended anyone by my tweet,” Jones told Yahoo! Sports’ Kristian Dryer. “When Eric challenged me to a race earlier all I knew was that he was a football player, but certainly had no idea he had become paralyzed from a football injury. I thought I was tweeting in good fun like I always do with the many athletes who challenge me to races.”

LeGrand declined comment to Yahoo!, but he did express support for Jones over Twitter and apologized to her for what took place.

Jones’ Twitter account has been silent since Tuesday evening. LeGrand expressed support for Jones again on Wednesday. He tweeted the following message:

Lolo Jones inadvertently taunts paralyzed Eric LeGrand after being asked to race

Lolo Jones figured she was just responding to another boastful athlete when she challenged Eric LeGrand to a race, but she was left embarrassed and remorseful after learning the former Rutgers football player is paralyzed.

LeGrand is a former defensive tackle who was paralyzed after suffering a spinal cord injury during a Rutgers-Army game on Oct. 16, 2010. LeGrand has been in a wheelchair since then, but he’s remained in the public eye because of his positive attitude and inspirational response to the injury.

LeGrand happened to tweet at Jones on Tuesday, challenging the Olympic hurdler to a race:

Jones likely saw from LeGrand’s Twitter profile that he bills himself as a defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (his former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano signed him to a one-day contract with the team), and she began taunting him in response.

“Get Checked for a concussion,” she wrote back to LeGrand. “Clearly, u’ve been hit in the head… Cos u arnt beating a track athlete.”

Lolo then raised the stakes.

Lolo Jones denies she is dating Ndamukong Suh, jokes about Super Bowl

On Thursday, a gossip website reported that Lolo Jones and Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh are dating and that Lolo was a special guest at  Detroit’s season opener against St. Louis. Jones put the rumor to rest during an interview with ESPN Playbook later in the day, and she showcased some of her trademark witty sarcasm in the process.

“We are not currently dating,” Jones said. “However, if the Lions win the Super Bowl and he wants to use the ring to propose to me, then we’ll see.”

That sounds like a typical Lolo answer, as we know she loves to joke around and has even gotten herself into a little bit of trouble with her sense of humor before. From the sound of it, the Olympic hurdler’s virginity is still in tact and she is still in search of the man of her dreams.

Lolo and Suh share the same agent and share some of the same responsibilities, but she insists the two of them are just friends. Similar rumors popped up back in April and Jones denied them at that time as well, so she is either adamant about keeping the relationship a secret, or a big deal is being made out of nothing.

Lolo Jones reportedly dating Ndamukong Suh, attended Sunday’s game

Tim Tebow may not be the only football player Lolo Jones was anxious to meet after returning home from the London Olympics. As we all know, the personal life of Lolo is something that infatuates much of the general public due in part to the fact that she is so open about it and also because she openly admits she is a virgin. If you choose to believe this report from MediaTakeOut.com, Jones may have actually found herself a boyfriend — Detroit Lions tough guy Ndamukong Suh.

Well MediaTakeOut.com confirmed that she’s now got an NFL superstar BOYFRIEND. According to a TOP MTO snitch, LoLo attended Sunday’s Lions game as a PERSONAL GUEST of their star player Ndamukong Suh.

The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, “Lolo and [Ndamukong] have been kickin it for a while, and they are serious. [Ndamukong Suh] is very religious too, and respectful . . . they make a great couple.”

Lolo Jones: I’m running track for a medal, not to get famous like a sex tape girl

The amount of attention Lolo Jones received leading up to and during the Olympics irritated a number of people. Lolo failed to win a medal, yet she was easily the most popular female track-and-field star in London because she has an outgoing personality and was open about being a virgin. However, Jones insists that she could have found much more efficient ways to capture the public’s attention if that were her only goal.

“I’m not running track to be the most famous person,” Jones explained during an interview with KCCI in Des Moines. “If I wanted to do that, I would totally do a Kim Kardashian or Snooki. I’d do a sex tape or something like that if I wanted fame. I’m running track to get a medal, so if I had that medal, that would make me content.”

A couple of weeks ago, we saw how upset Lolo was after the New York Times ripped her apart for hogging the spotlight. Two of her fellow teammates seemed to agree with the article, as they blasted Jones for commanding all the attention despite not winning a medal. Their comments came as a surprise to Lolo.

“Yeah, that was kind of a shocker,” she explained. “I didn’t see that one coming at all. I kind of understand their frustration, I guess, because they feel like they don’t have media or photo shoots or any of that off-the-track stuff that they might want. But from my end of it, if I had a medal, that’s all I would need.”

With attention comes jealousy. When Jones decided she was going to be open with the public and share intimate secrets about herself, she signed herself up for resentment in the process.

Lolo Jones says she hasn’t seen any hookups in the Olympic Village, still wants to meet Tim Tebow

If the Olympic Village is truly as sex-infested as everyone claims it is, it’s probably safe to assume Lolo Jones doesn’t partake in the festivities. Unless you have been living in a cave for the past few months, you are well aware that Jones is one of the world’s most famous virgins. At 30 years of age, she says keeping her viriginity has been harder than training for the Olympics but is something she takes pride in. However, Jones insists she is not the only one not doing any fooling around in the Olympic Village.

While she could be just covering for them, Lolo said she has not seen any hooking up going on between her track and field teammates and others in the Village.

“I’m in a suite with seven girls, and I guess we don’t have any sluts on the team,” Jones said according to USA TODAY Sports. “I haven’t seen any hookups. I’m sure it’s going on, though, but I haven’t heard any juicy details yet.”

Fair enough. If you believe Hope Solo, it’s definitely going on and there are definitely plenty of juicy details. Ryan Lochte said something similar to Lolo about not knowing of any crazy sex stories, but there is a reason it becomes big news when unauthorized batches of condoms make their way into the dorms. Sex in the Olympic Village is a big business. Just ask Durex — the official condom of the London Olympics.

With the Olympics coming to a close, Lolo also reiterated that she would still like to meet Tim Tebow.

“You always think you’re the last virgin on earth,” she explained. “I respect his journey, and any virgin I just love talking to them and sharing the journey and the frustration.”

Here’s hoping Mr. Right comes along shortly and Jones can put an end to that frustration.

Dawn Harper, Kellie Wells upset Lolo Jones is focus of media’s attention (Video)

Lolo Jones entered the London Games as one of the US’s most well known Olympians, but she was ridiculed after finishing a disappointing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles on Tuesday. Two of her teammates who finished better in the competition expressed resentment toward the amount of media attention Jones receives.

Dawn Harper, who won silver in the 100-meter hurdles, and Kellie Wells, who took bronze, spoke about their lack of attention during an interview with NBC’s Michelle Beadle:

Below is a transcript of their conversation (via SB Nation):

Lolo Jones breaks down during interview: US media ‘ripped me to shreds’ (Video)

Last weekend, the New York Times published a piece that many believe was extremely unfair to US Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones. The heading of the article said it all: “For Lolo Jones, Everything is Image.” It compared Jones to women’s tennis star Anna Kournikova, making the point that her personal affairs and good looks have made her a popular topic of discussion — not her accomplishments on the track. As you might expect, the piece greatly upset Jones.

“I think it was crazy just because it was two days before I competed, and then the fact that it was from a US media,’’ Jones said on The Today Show as she nearly broke into tears. “They should be supporting our US Olympic athletes and instead they just ripped me to shreds. I just thought that that was crazy because I worked six days a week, every day, for four years for a 12-second race and the fact that they just tore me apart, which is heartbreaking.

Lolo Jones doesn’t care about NBC’s tape delay of the Olympics

NBC has understandably been pounded for its tape-delayed coverage of the Olympics. The time difference between London and the U.S. has forced NBC to spare marquee events from live television coverage in favor of primetime coverage up to 12 hours after they took place, even though NBC and its family of networks is broadcasting all throughout the day when these events are already occurring. It’s such an impractical mess that even the peacock network has laughably jumped the gun on itself.

And now that many people are fully immersed in the Twitter age, where spoiler alerts are few and far between, it’s even harder than before to avoid having results ruined before they air. But you know who really doesn’t care if you haven’t seen anything on TV yet? Lolo Jones.

Here’s what the American Olympic hurdler tweeted Tuesday afternoon, apparently in response to some of her followers’ complaints after she spilled the beans on some yet-to-be-broadcast results:

Lolo Jones criticized for gun tweet

We know Lolo Jones loves to joke around and keep things loose, which is one of the things that has made her such a popular topic of discussion during and leading up the the Olympics. She runs one of the more entertaining Twitter accounts among the Olympic athletes, but her sense of humor resulted in a bit of criticism on Saturday afternoon.

After the US lost to Italy in archery, Lolo sent out the following tweet:

In the wake of the devastating movie theater shooting that took place in Colorado, several of Lolo’s followers thought the tweet was in poor taste and inappropriate, prompting the following response from the American hurdler.
