Peyton Manning is not currently involved with any group seeking to purchase the Denver Broncos, but it sounds like he’ll have the chance to get involved if he wants to.

Initial bids for the franchise are due Monday afternoon, and four groups are expected to submit a bid for the Broncos. According to Mike Klis of 9News, all four potential owners have reached out to Manning about a potential role in any purchase.

There is nothing surprising about any ownership groups wanting to get Manning onside. He remains a hugely popular figure in Denver and even still works with Denver players. He would add respect and clout to any potential owners.

The question is whether he would be interested in such a role. He has found huge success with his “Manningcast” on ESPN, and may want to stick with that. He likely has time to make a decision as the ownership process works itself out.

Russell Wilson’s trade to the Denver Broncos has given him an invaluable resource: consistent access to Peyton Manning.

Wilson said Monday that Manning has “taken me under his wing” since the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback was traded to Denver. Wilson and Manning have extensively worked together since the trade, as Wilson divulged that the two have watched film and talked often. The plan is to continue to do so going forward.

Wilson has been around for a while, but Manning definitely still has a thing or two to teach him. Plus, Wilson reportedly consulted with Manning before approving the trade to Denver. It certainly helps that Manning was also a franchise quarterback who made a late-career move to play for the Broncos after spending his entire career with one franchise.

Manning’s assistance has gone both ways and isn’t just limited to Wilson. He’s reportedly even been offering guidance to the Broncos on how to get the best out of Wilson, too.

Colts fans will love what Reggie Wayne said about Matt Ryan

Reggie Wayne has been around the Indianapolis Colts for a very long time, and his observation about quarterback Matt Ryan certainly holds some weight.

Wayne, currently the Colts’ wide receivers coach, said Wednesday that Ryan reminds him so much of ex-teammate Payton Manning that it makes him “throw up.”

Wayne is employed by the team, but he certainly does not need to raise expectations that high for Ryan unless he really believes in the quarterback. Any comparison to Manning is a big deal in Indianapolis, after all.

Wayne’s assessment of Ryan is definitely not shared by everyone around the NFL. He is coming off a season of modest numbers, with 20 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions on a poor Falcons team. The veteran quarterback will have a lot of people to prove wrong if he is to live up to Wayne’s analysis here.

Peyton Manning is honoring his late former teammate Demaryius Thomas in a tremendous way.

The retired Hall of Fame QB Manning announced on Wednesday that he will be launching a new scholarship at Georgia Tech, Thomas’ alma mater, as a tribute to Thomas, who passed away at age 33 last year. The scholarship is being established through Manning’s PeyBack Foundation and will be named the Demaryius A. Thomas Scholarship Endowment.

A news release from Georgia Tech revealed that the scholarship will be for incoming freshman students from Laurens County, Ga., where Thomas was born and raised, with major financial need. Partial and full scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and community service involvement.

Manning and Thomas were teammates on the Denver Broncos for four seasons from 2012 to 2015. That included Denver’s Super Bowl 50 win.

There were some other cool tributes to Thomas after his death in December. This scholarship established by Manning and Georgia Tech will be another great way of honoring Thomas’ memory.

Peyton Manning advising Broncos on how to use Russell Wilson

Peyton Manning still maintains close ties to both of the NFL teams he played for. He’s even using those ties to help one team get the most out of its new quarterback.

Manning said in a new interview that he has been speaking to Russell Wilson to help Wilson in his transition to life with the Denver Broncos. Manning has even been in contact with Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett to give tips on how the coaching staff can help Wilson settle in smoothly.

“I’ve talked to Russell a number of times and we’ve had conversations about some of the things that helped me in my transition to a different team that I think can apply to anybody making the jump, especially after being in a place for a long time,” Manning told Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post. “(I’ve had) conversations with Coach Hackett as well about some of those things, maybe some do’s and don’ts that helped me and can certainly apply and Russell can hit the ground running here in his first year.”

Manning is a great resource for the Broncos, and not just because he was an outstanding quarterback. He was closely associated with the Indianapolis Colts before joining Denver in 2012, so he knows all about the changes Wilson is making.

The Broncos have had a big assist from Manning as it relates to Wilson. The Hall of Famer seemingly played a role in Wilson choosing Denver, too.

Peyton Manning had absolutely hilarious comments on Ray Lewis

Peyton Manning in a suit

Peyton Manning is known for being a good on-air personality and for his sharp sense of humor. But he really showed off those characteristics when talking about Ray Lewis recently.

Manning was a speaker on a panel at hobby event “The Mint Collective” in Las Vegas. His TV production company, Omaha Productions, shared a clip from Manning’s appearance that went viral.

The video clip shows Manning praising Lewis as the best defensive player he ever faced.

“Best player I played against on defense was by far Ray Lewis. When he retired, it was like the greatest day of my life. I sent flowers to his press conference. ‘Don’t come back like Brady,’ you know,” Manning joked.

Manning then proceeded to share what made the former Baltimore Ravens linebacker so good.

“He was so big, strong, smart, instinctive, studied film like a quarterback. Always thought he kind of knew what we were doing, right? I call a lot of plays at the line of scrimmage. Felt like he kind of some of those plays. When he blitzed, it’s like he knew our snap count, he timed it up. Always kind of hit me as he was running downhill. Kind of like he slammed me into the ground. He kind of used me to help him get up. You know, whispering in my ear, ‘I’ll be back in a couple of minutes, punk.’ Really friendly guy.

“He and I are good friends now. But when we were playing, he was not that friendly. Let’s just say that,” Manning said.

Lewis played in the NFL from 1996-2012. He made 12 Pro Bowls, won a Super Bowl and was named AP Defensive Player of the Year twice. He later was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Manning played from 1998-2015, so Lewis was a factor for all but the end of the quarterback’s career. The massive amount of respect Manning has for Lewis is evident. He also shared the stories in a great way with some of those funny lines.

Peyton Manning jabs Tom Brady over brief retirement

Peyton Manning in a suit

Peyton Manning says he sent Tom Brady a heartfelt gift when Brady announced his retirement nearly two months ago, and the Hall of Famer wants it back.

Manning was a guest at an event hosted by The MINT Collective on Saturday. He revealed that he sent Brady a bottle of wine and a nice handwritten note after the seven-time Super Bowl champion said he was retiring. Now that Brady has unretired, Manning expects a refund.

Brady and Manning are always trading funny barbs. In fact, Brady recently compared his retirement 180 to Manning joining a social media site.

Peyton should look at it this way — Brady is going to retire at some point. Even if that isn’t for another two or three years now, Brady already got his gift. Manning’s work is done.

Tom Brady cracks joke about Peyton Manning joining Instagram

Tom Brady after a game

Peyton Manning joined Instagram on Thursday, and Tom Brady could not let that go without a joke.

The Denver Broncos shared a video confirming that Manning had an authentic Instagram account. That prompted Brady to jokingly contrast what he did when he got bored with Manning’s course of action.

Brady’s social media team is all over Instagram. They use the platform to send self-deprecating messages and troll rival fans regularly, so he could probably give Manning some social media tips.

Based on what we’ve heard from Eli Manning, Peyton may be a man of few words on social media.

Matt Ryan shares awesome Peyton Manning story

Peyton Manning in a suit

Matt Ryan was officially introduced as the new quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. He was, of course, asked some questions about Peyton Manning, and Ryan shared a great story about one of his past interactions with the Hall of Famer.

Ryan said Manning has been a great mentor for him and that he is honored to follow in his footsteps. He also revealed that Peyton was one of the first people to call him after the Atlanta Falcons punched their ticket to the Super Bowl in 2016. Ryan was out celebrating with his teammates, but Manning wanted to get to work.

Manning is a football junkie, and that was the year after he retired. He was probably itching to be a part of Super Bowl preparation any way he could. He may have been even more excited since the Falcons were getting ready to play the New England Patriots and Manning’s longtime rival, Tom Brady.

Ryan will have a great opportunity to contend with the Colts next season. Manning is still close with many members of the organization, so he should continue to be a great resource for Ryan.

Report: Russell Wilson spoke to Peyton Manning before trade

Russell Wilson in Seahawks gear

Russell Wilson did a lot of research on what his preferred destination would be before he was ultimately traded to the Denver Broncos. That research apparently included speaking to one legendary quarterback.

Wilson reached out to Peyton Manning before being traded to Denver to discuss what it was like playing for the Broncos, according to James Palmer of NFL Network. Wilson and Manning had multiple conversations about both the city and the organization.

Whatever Manning said clearly worked, as Wilson ultimately accepted a trade to Denver. The former Seahawk apparently had other options, but fixated on the Broncos first and foremost.

Interestingly, Manning has at times been rumored to be eyeing an ownership stake in the Broncos. Maybe the two will be paired together more professionally in the future, but for now, it seems the Broncos owe Manning a tip of the cap for their new quarterback.
