Ryan Shazier able to return to Pittsburgh for further evaluation

Ryan Shazier back

There is at least some good news on Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier.

In a statement released by the Steelers, it was announced that Shazier is well enough that he was able to be moved from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh for further testing and evaluation.

Shazier still has a lengthy recovery ahead of him, we can assume, and there remains a lot that we don’t know. The signs sound good, and the fact that he was able to be safely transported from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh is positive news as well.

Report: Ryan Shazier has ‘some movement’ in lower extremities

Ryan Shazier back

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier left Monday night’s game following an incredibly frightening tackle play, but we continue to hear positive updates about his health.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Tuesday morning that Shazier had “some movement” in his lower extremities and has shown promising signs.

The Steelers said in a statement that doctors do not believe Shazier will need to undergo surgery, which is also good news.

Shazier went in head-first to make a tackle on a Cincinnati Bengals player and immediately grabbed at his back area. He was able to roll onto his back and move his arms and legs, but it appeared he was in a great deal of pain.

Shazier’s injury was just one in a game that featured numerous brutal hits. Here’s hoping he is able to make a full recovery.

Updates on Ryan Shazier’s status are ‘encouraging’

Ryan Shazier back

Ryan Shazier’s status following Monday night’s Pittsburgh Steelers-Cincinnati Bengals game is all anyone could talk about.

The Steelers linebacker was taken off on a backboard after injuring himself making a tackle with the crown of his helmet in the first quarter. He was not moving his lower body, which was an extreme concern. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

The Steelers did not give updates on his status, aside from saying it was a back injury. But Steelers reporter Gerry Dulac provided a positive update after the game.

NFL Media’s Aditi Kinkhabwala also said Steelers players were told news from the hospital was “encouraging.”

Some said his injury was called a spinal cord concussion.

That’s as good as it gets.

ESPN’s Michele Steele previously reported that Shazier was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center because they have a Level 1 trauma center.

“He was conscious after the hit. He was interacting with personnel,” Steele reported. She also said eyewitnesses said the lower half of Shazier’s body was completely limp.

Given what was feared, these signs are all encouraging.

NFL players send support to Ryan Shazier after scary injury

Several players from around the NFL sent prayers and well wishes to Ryan Shazier after he appeared to suffer a back injury during Monday night’s game between the Steelers and Bengals.

During the first quarter, Shazier went in head-first to make a tackle and fell to the ground, immediately grabbing his back. He then rolled over on his back and remained that way until medical personnel arrived. Below is video of the play.

Shazier was taken to the locker room on a cart. Shortly thereafter, the team announced he was being evaluated for a back injury.

In the wake of the scary scene on the field, players from around the league took to social media to send Shazier their support.

Ryan Shazier posts gruesome photo ahead of game against Ravens

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is looking forward to playing against the division rival Baltimore Ravens this weekend, and he has a very interesting way of showing it.

Shazier shared a photo on Instagram early Thursday morning that featured a pack of wolves eating their prey. It was pretty graphic:

We hungry… By any means we're going to eat!

“We hungry… By any means we’re going to eat!” the caption read.

It’s safe to assume Shazier was implying the Steelers are going to use that mentality against the Ravens, and they may need it.

Baltimore is fighting for a playoff spot and currently has the No. 7 spot in the AFC. A win over the Steelers would pull the Ravens into a tie for first in the AFC North, so this is basically the most important game of the year for both teams. Will Terrell Suggs respond to Shazier’s post with one of his infamous T-shirts? We wouldn’t rule it out.

Ryan Shazier lays massive hit on Giovani Bernard (Video)

Ryan Shazier hit

Ryan Shazier laid a huge hit on Giovani Bernard during the third quarter of the Steelers’ playoff game Saturday, causing the Bengals running back to fumble.

Bernard caught a pass from AJ McCarron and turned up field where he was met by Shazier, who drilled him:

Bernard fumbled and crumbled after the hit. The officials blew the whistle to stop the play, negating a Steelers touchdown on a run back.

The hit was controversial because Shazier hit Bernard high, but it was ruled legal. The reasoning was that Bernard had turned up field and was no longer considered a defenseless receiver.

The hit led to a skirmish breaking out between both sides. Vontaze Burfict, who notoriously hates the Steelers, got involved and was said to be going nuts on the sidelines.
