Cool video shows how Alvin Kamara called the play for his touchdown run vs. Falcons

Alvin Kamara

A cool video circulated on Twitter Wednesday and shows how Alvin Kamara called the play that turned into his touchdown run in the New Orleans Saints’ Week 13 win over the Atlanta Falcons last weekend.

The video pairs head coach Sean Payton’s explanation with a visualization of what the coach was talking about. Payton described a running play the Saints utilized involving a fake to Kamara, while Taysom Hill kept the ball and rushed for seven yards. As the team headed to the locker room for halftime, Payton asked Kamara what plays he liked. Kamara said he thought running the same play but with him getting the ball would work.

So in the third quarter, the Saints ran the play but gave the ball to Kamara, who had a huge hole. He rushed into the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown that put New Orleans up 21-9.

Scoring on a play must have been a true thrill for Kamara, who had 88 yards in the game. Asking for the input of his player and then using it to success also probably makes the players feel more connected to the team, the coach, and the organization. Great move by Payton, and great call by Kamara.

Sean Payton explains his petty Twitter behavior with Roddy White

Sean Payton explained what was going through his mind when he got petty on Twitter last weekend.

Payton was a guest on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Wednesday and was asked about trolling Roddy White after the New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons 24-9.

White, a former Falcons wide receiver, predicted Atlanta would smash New Orleans because the Saints were playing Taysom Hill at quarterback.

After the Saints won convincingly, Payton retweeted White’s errant prediction.

“That was just one of those moments I couldn’t help myself,” Payton told Eisen.

He also explained how he came across White’s tweet.

“Four or five years ago, whenever I got Twitter, I followed him just because he was a good player in our division, so I’ve always followed him,” Payton said. “So I had just come across a couple of his tweets, and I thought I haven’t heard from him in a while.”

That’s fantastic. We are all for Payton rubbing it in after a win like that.

New Orleans is now 8-2 and has the best record in the NFC. And they’re currently playing without Drew Brees, who has multiple rib fractures.

Sean Payton trolls ex-Falcons WR Roddy White after big win

Sean Payton stuck it to his haters on Sunday and made sure to remind everyone about it.

Payton’s New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons 24-9 on Sunday to improve to 8-2. They started Taysom Hill at quarterback over Jameis Winston, which reportedly bothered many players.

The decision worked out, as Hill went 18/23 for 233 yards and rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns.

After the victory, Payton retweeted a comment from former Falcons star receiver Roddy White, who tweeted on Saturday that the Falcons were going to eat Hill’s lunch.

That obviously did not happen, and nobody was happier to remind everyone of the result than Payton.

Video: Sean Payton, Saints dance in locker room after dominant win

Sean Payton dance

The New Orleans Saints handed Tom Brady the worst loss of his career with a 38-3 win on “Sunday Night Football” over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa, Fla. and partied afterwards.

Videos from inside the locker room showed Jameis Winston and Sean Payton dancing, among others. Winston was having the time of his life and eating a W again, just like he did in the postgame interview. Payton was dancing it up with his players too.

After a huge win like that on the road, you have to celebrate. And watching Jameis loving life despite barely doing anything in the game was too much fun.

The Saints are now 6-2 and hold the head-to-head tiebreak against the 6-3 Bucs. They’re in command and tied for the best record in the NFC along with the Packers and Seahawks.

Sean Payton once again trolls reporter over Michael Thomas trade talk

Sean Payton

Michael Thomas has seen his name pop up in trade rumors as he has dealt with injuries and disciplinary issues this season, but New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton continues to do his best to throw cold water on those rumors.

Last week, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said he has been told by sources that the Saints are willing to listen to trade offers for Thomas and that the All-Pro receiver is interested in moving on. Payton responded on Twitter by saying any NFL insiders making that claim are “insiders on the outside where they belong.”

On Monday, Florio published a follow-up report indicating Thomas is likely not going anywhere. He said the receiver’s camp has tried to get another team to make an offer, but that offer is not coming. Payton once again trolled Florio, this time with a funny “backpedaling” GIF.

The Saints would have to absorb a salary cap hit of $20 million to trade Thomas. Even with the recent drama surrounding Thomas and Drew Brees’ decline in production, it would take a massive offer for the move to make sense. If Payton’s social media activity is any indication, the Saints haven’t even considered it.

Sean Payton responds to Michael Thomas trade rumor

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton had a pretty firm response to rumors that the team could be open to trading wide receiver Michael Thomas.

On Saturday, reports emerged stating that the Saints could be willing to move Thomas under the right circumstances. Not long after, Payton used his Twitter account to issue a firm response to that story.

That’s a pretty firm and speedy denial. It also makes sense. Even if the Saints are frustrated with Thomas right now over his recent behavior, he’s one of the best and most productive receivers in the NFL. Plus, he’s a little over a year removed from signing a long-term contract. The Saints would have to absorb a significant cap hit if they did trade him.

Though this didn’t go nearly as far, it’s not the first bit of trade-related drama Payton has had to quiet this season.

Jon Gruden, Sean Payton fined for not wearing masks

Sean Payton

The NFL has added two more head coaches to its masks fine list for Week 2.

Jon Gruden and Sean Payton were both fined $100,000 for not wearing masks during “Monday Night Football.” Their respective teams, the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints, also received $250,000 fines.

The NFL has now fined five of the league’s 32 head coaches for masks. In total, that is $1,750,000 in fines this week.

The NFL is making it very clear that they want coaches to wear masks for coronavirus purposes. The league issued warnings last week and escalated to fines this week. The message from the league has been sent.

Jon Gruden, Sean Payton may be headed for mask fines too

Jon Gruden

The NFL showed on Monday that it is serious about handing out fines to coaches who do not wear their masks during games. Sean Payton and Jon Gruden could be headed for fines as well.

Both Gruden and Payton were seen with their masks/face coverings near their neck on the sidelines during “Monday Night Football” between the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints.

Some head coaches are having difficulty communicating/coaching during games while wearing their masks, which seems to be leading to the problem.

Kyle Shanahan, Vic Fangio and Pete Carroll all received $100,000 fines for not wearing their masks during Week 2. Their teams were fined $250,000 as well, totaling $1.05 million in fines.

Sean Payton shares funny story about buying Tom Brady water

Sean Payton

Sean Payton shared a funny story on Wednesday about his experience buying Tom Brady water.

Payton’s New Orleans Saints host Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The longtime head coach shared with the media how impressed he is with Brady and Drew Brees staying in such good shape at their ages.

Then Payton said he even bought some of Brady’s “TB12” hydration products. But the one thing he didn’t like was all the marketing emails he received from them.

Part of the TB12 method is constantly bombarding the customer, didn’t you know that, Sean? Just kidding.

There is a lot to respect about Brady playing well in the NFL at 43 and Brees doing the same at 41. The same relentless attitude Brady takes with his training is the same his company uses with their email marketing. And so far, Brady is earning praise from his teammates.

Alvin Kamara, Saints coach Sean Payton met to clear the air

Alvin Kamara

NFL fans were shocked by the news this week that the New Orleans Saints were open to trading Alvin Kamara, but it does not sound like the star running back is going anywhere.

Kamara missed several days of practice recently and is seeking a new contract. He’s set to make around $2.1 million in the final year of his rookie deal this year, so you can understand why he wants more. The brief holdout led to the Saints entertaining trade inquiries for Kamara, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Kamara met with head coach Sean Payton on Wednesday to clear the air.

There were rumblings that Kamara is seeking Christian McCaffrey money, but the Saints are unwilling to go that high. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Kamara is not asking for that much and the two sides are making progress toward an extension.

Kamara didn’t have the mammoth season in 2019 that many predicted, but he still had more than 1,300 total yards from scrimmage while playing through a significant injury. The former Tennessee star has scored 37 touchdowns in his first three NFL seasons and is a huge part of Payton’s offense.

The Saints don’t want to give up Kamara, but they aren’t going to pay him $16 million per year. If the two sides can meet somewhere in the middle, it sounds like an extension could be agreed upon before Week 1.
