Emanuel Newton says sex before fight to blame for loss

Emanuel Newton

Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton says that having sex before his most recent fight is partially to blame for his loss.

Newton (25-9-1) lost to Phil Davis in the semifinals of Bellator’s light heavyweight tournament in September. He is getting ready for a fight on Feb. 19 and spoke with MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn ahead of that contest. In his interview, he shared his belief that engaging in pre-fight sex hurt him.

“I had sex like three or four hours before the fight, which was stupid,” Newton told MMAjunkie. “Once again, I was getting caught up in that (mentality that) certain things couldn’t touch me when I have to understand that I am human and I do have to train hard and I can’t be going out and making stupid mistakes. Then the first takedown of the fight that Phil got on me, I popped my rib. It just wasn’t meant for me to win that fight because I learned so much.

“(Having sex) definitely took away my hips. My trainer Antonio (McKee), even the day before when we were doing the open workouts I was kicking him off his feet with spinning back kicks. The first takedown Phil got on me was when I threw a spinning back kick and he powered through it and he got that body lock and that’s when I popped my rib. But right when we were warming up my trainer looked at me and said, ‘What happened to that power?’ Lesson learned. It happened for a bigger reason and I did learn a lesson and get a deeper understanding of myself.”

Even though he lost, at least Newton says he learned from the experience and will not repeat the mistake. He has already beaten Linton Vassell once before, so his chances of winning in two weeks should be strong.

Newton really should have known better. After all, this legendary fighter says he cuts sex off three weeks before fights.

Ex-Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton was $600-an-hour Vegas prostitute

suzy-favor-hamiltonThings are not always as they seem on the surface. In the case of Suzy Favor Hamilton, they were the exact opposite of what one would expect.

Favor Hamilton was a nine-time NCAA title winner at Wisconsin as a middle-distance runner. She was so incredible in college the Big Ten named its Athlete of the Year award after her. She competed in three different Olympics from 1992-2000, and she was the US record holder in the 1,000 meters. She was featured in commercials and magazines, and she seemed to transition into a normal life after athletics.

Favor Hamilton owns a real estate company with her husband in Madison, Wis., and she serves as a motivational speaker. She has a daughter, does promotional work for Disney, and she continues to run. But the truth is her life was nothing like it appeared on the surface.

The Smoking Gun dropped a bombshell report on Thursday that outed Favor Hamilton as a high-priced escort who has spent the past year working for an escort company called Haley Heston’s Private Collection.

Favor Hamilton went by the name “Kelly Lundy” and apparently was so good at her job she charged $600 per hour and $6,000 for 24 hours. She had worked her way up to third in The Erotic Review’s Las Vegas standings (ed note: they keep stats on EVERYTHING these days, don’t they?). But one of her biggest mistakes in working as a high-priced escort (read: prostitute) was that she would disclose her real identity to clients. That’s apparently how the word got back to The Smoking Gun about her illegal side gig.

What’s incredible is that the 44-year-old runner remained married to her 44-year-old husband, who was aware of her escort work.

Napoli soccer team credits low injury rate to banning sex two days before matches

The relationship between sex and sports is a topic that nobody seems to ever agree on. Some athletes claim having sex increases their performance while others believe it is a hinderance. Italian soccer club Napoli takes the latter stance, as the team’s doctor believes a strict no-sex policy two days before games has led to healthier footballers.

“Avoiding sexual activity for two days before a game is fundamental to prevent muscular strains, contractions or inflammations,” Professor Alfonso De Nicola told the Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper according to Football Italia. “It is the rule for our squad. There is also a specific work done by my staff and the fitness coaches which is aimed more at prevention than cure.”

It may sound crazy, but Manny Pacquiao thinks it works for him. In fact, the Pac Man goes even longer without having sex before his fights. When AC Milan star Kevin-Prince Boateng was held out of action with a thigh injury over the winter, we wondered if it had anything to do with the fact that his girlfriend said she likes to have sex all the time.

You could suffer an injury during any type of physical activity, so obviously in some way having less sex decreases your chance of injury. Maybe there’s a pattern and maybe there isn’t. But the world still needs babies.

Prostitutes reportedly being run out of London for Olympics

Believe it or not but prostitution is actually legal in the United Kingdom (or, as I guess we have to call it for the next two weeks, Great Britain). But, according to the AFP, there’s been a crackdown on the sex trade in London in an attempt to clean the streets in advance of the estimated 2 million visitors hailing upon the city for the Olympics.

East London, where the Olympic Park is situated, is the primary target of London’s Metropolitan Police, which has performed numerous raids on brothels in that segment of the city.

Still, Open Doors, a government advocacy group that supports East London sex workers (yes, apparently these groups exist), says the crackdown puts the prostitutes in harm’s way.

“They are already stigmatized, they are already vulnerable,” Georgina Perry, who runs Open Doors said. “All that’s happening to them is that they’re moving further away from services that can support them.”

One prostitute seems a little more worried about her financial situation than her safety.

“It’s going to be a complete nightmare, and I think we’re all going to lose masses of money,” she said.

Hey, I’m sure you’d be welcomed with open arms at the Olympic Village.

Hope Solo speaks openly on sex and debauchery in the Olympic Village

Some stories have managed to get out to the public realm, but, largely, the legendary amount of hooking up that takes place in the Olympic Village each Olympiad has been one of the better-kept secrets of the Games.

However, a tremendous, new ESPN The Magazine story is doing its part to blow the lid wide off on the frat house-like atmosphere of the swanky digs Olympians call home for two-plus weeks. In tremendous and shocking detail, too, thanks to several candid former and current Olympians.

One of the athletes who spoke openly about their wild experiences at the Olympic Village is massively popular U.S. women’s soccer team goalkeeper Hope Solo, who won gold four years ago in Beijing and has already had made her share of headlines this week.

“There’s a lot of sex going on,” Solo said. So much, in fact, that U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte estimates that “70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians” engage in what Bill Clinton would call “sexual relations.”

Italian swimmer Filippo Magnini says he won’t have sex during Olympics

All athletes have different ways of preparing for competition, especially those who compete in the Olympics. In certain ways, Olympic athletes are their own breed. They are some of the fiercest competitors in the world and have some of the strictest training regimens. Some take long naps before races while others stay awake and listen to music for hours. Some eat light meals and others load up on calories. Some use sex to relieve stress, whereas others refrain from it throughout the entire Olympic Games. Italian swimmer Filippo Magnini prefers celibacy.

“There are athletes who even have sex the evening before (a race), but I’m more prudent,” Magnini told “A” Magazine according to the Herald Sun. “During the events I try to keep calm.”

The 30-year-old is the double 100-meter freestyle world champion and won the world 100-meter freestyle in 2005 and 2007, so his resume is impressive enough that his training methods need not be questioned. Pictured above on the right is Magnini’s girlfriend, Federica Pellegrini. We are hoping Pellegrini — an Olympic swimmer and the 2008 gold medalist in the 200-meter freestyle — also prefers to swear off sex during the Olympic Games. Otherwise, the 23-year-old could be one frustrated customer in London this summer.

Olympic officials reportedly concerned about potential prostitution boom in London

With all the concerns involving security, housing, venues, and more that surround hosting the Olympic Games, one potential problem has a tendency to slip through the cracks: Prostitution. From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense. The Olympics brings together a massive group of people that includes athletes, coaches, spectators, relatives, and lonely businessmen. Add that up and you get major brothel potential.

According to the BBC, former Minister for the Olympics Tessa Jowell told the Metro Police Authority back in January of 2010 that she would not stand for women being trafficked to London in search of business.

“Major sporting events can be a magnet for the global sex and trafficking industry; this is wholly unacceptable,” Jowell said. “I am determined that traffickers will not exploit London 2012.”

Maybe that’s why they ordered an extra shipment of these at the Vancouver Games. During the Athens Olympics in 2004, it is believed that the number of known human trafficking victims almost doubled. Those numbers have been widely disputed, but that event certainly raised awareness about the potential problems events of a similar scale could face with regard to prostitution. Studies have found that prostitution is a significant issue during the World Cup as well.
