Shelley Meyer leaving Twitter following Urban controversy

Urban Meyer Shelley

Urban Meyer’s wife Shelley has long been active on social media with supporting her husband and his teams, but she may be done with all that.

Shelley announced on Thursday that she will no longer be using Twitter due to the “hate, vitrol, slander, (and) trash” that she has been experiencing. She thanked her friends and followers for their support and also appeared to make reference to all the drama surrounding her husband.

“We all make mistakes — we are all sinners,” Shelley wrote. “If you think you aren’t? Then cast the first stone.”

You can see the full post and statement below:

Shelley initially defended Urban after a video went viral that showed a young woman rubbing up against the Jacksonville Jaguars coach at a bar. However, she did not publicly comment after another angle of the interaction appeared to show Urban getting handsy with the woman.

Urban and Shelley have been married for 37 years. The coach answered a question about his marriage while addressing the media and apologizing on Wednesday.

Urban Meyer’s wife Shelley knew he was out at bar/restaurant

The video of Urban Meyer that went viral on Saturday appears to reflect poorly upon him at first glance. But maybe it’s not as bad as it seems.

A video of girl grinding in front of Meyer at his restaurant in Dublin, Ohio went viral (seen here). Meyer seemed to have his arm in front of him to serve as a barrier between him and the woman. That seemed to be Meyer’s way of showing the grinding was unwanted from his end, but he did not want to be rude to the woman.

Other photos of Meyer from that night show him appearing to have a drink in his hand and taking pictures with customers. That could just be him being courteous to patrons.

The important thing to note is that while the video may be somewhat embarrassing to his family and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Meyer’s wife knew exactly where he was that night. It’s not as if he was sneaking around and going out on the sly.

Someone shared a photo of Meyer at the restaurant/bar in Columbus and said they enjoyed seeing him back in town. Shelley Meyer commented on the photo and said she was babysitting their grandsons. She even wrote in one of her hashtags that “buddy deserved a night out,” meaning she probably felt Urban needed to blow off some steam.

Urban has probably been grinding hard since taking over the Jaguars. They are 0-4 following their “heartbreaking” loss to the Bengals on Thursday. It seems like Shelley knew he might need a night off to give himself a break.

Shelley Meyer takes funny shot at Michigan on social media

Urban Meyer Shelley

Urban Meyer may not be the coach at Ohio State anymore, but his family clearly hasn’t forgotten their past — or their rivals.

On Saturday, FOX’s college football account sent out a message asking for replies on who their favorite team’s biggest rival is. Meyer’s wife Shelley was among those who chimed in, taking a blatant shot at Michigan in perhaps the most brutal way possible.

Just in case you forgot, 7-0 was Urban Meyer’s record against the Wolverines during his time at Ohio State.

Shelley does have history in Ohio even before her husband coached the Buckeyes. After all, she met Urban while the two were students at Cincinnati. And if there’s any doubt where her allegiances still lie, she even still has the letter “M” crossed out in her Twitter display name.

The Michigan-Ohio State rivalry runs deep and always has. The Meyers aren’t going to forget about it just because Urban jumped to the NFL.

Shelley Meyer sends nice anniversary note to husband Urban

Urban Meyer Shelley

Shelley Meyer sent a nice note to husband Urban to wish him a happy anniversary.

The Meyers have been married for 32 years and together for 37. All together, Shelley says she has loved her husband since she was 19 years old. Urban likewise would have been around 19 when they got together.

That’s a large percentage of their lives that they have been together. Shelley has been at Urban’s side through all his coaching stops — Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, Ohio State, and now Jacksonville. She has supported him through health issues, scandals, winning (a lot of this), and losing (not as much of that).

Urban Meyer house hunting in Austin, Texas rumor hits the net

Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer has not coached in college football since the 2018 season and is the best coach available. Texas Longhorns fans have been talking all fall about how he’s the kind of coach who could step in and replace Tom Herman to get the Longhorns back where they want to be. And guess what? Right on cue after the team lost to Iowa State, our first Urban Meyer-to-Texas rumor hit the net.

A new website called Austonia, which we previously have never heard of, started a rumor about Meyer’s wife Shelley going to Austin to check out the real estate market. Austin is where the University of Texas is located.

Is there anything to this rumor? Probably not, but this is a good reminder of a few things. One, expect there to be lots of talk about Texas possibly moving on from Herman. And two, expect more rumors linking Meyer to the Longhorns.

Herman has a hefty $15 million buyout, but we wouldn’t expect that kind of number to stand in the way of the boosters reeling in Meyer if he is interested. Herman has gone 30-18 over four years and has Texas 5-3 this season.

Prior to all the Texas rumors, all the talk last year was about Meyer headed to a different school. In the past, Meyer has offered some criticism of Herman while serving as an analyst for FOX.

Urban Meyer’s daughters upset with ESPN anchor John Anderson over ‘family’ dig

Nicki Meyer dad Urban

Urban Meyer’s daughters are upset with an ESPN anchor for taking a dig at the former Ohio State head coach while reading a highlight on Saturday night.

Meyer attended the Fiesta Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal game on Saturday in Arizona between his former team and Clemson. Towards the end of the game, ESPN showed Meyer on the sidelines. That clip was included in ESPN’s highlight package after the game, and anchor John Anderson decided to crack a joke while reading it.

“Look at Urban Meyer. He was going to spend time with his family, went to this game instead,” Anderson joked.

That was a reference to Meyer leaving his job at Florida supposedly to spend time with his family, only to go coach Ohio State the following season. I’ve made a joke about it in the past. So have others. Anderson did on Saturday, and the Meyer family did not find it to be funny.

Nicki Meyer, Urban’s oldest daughter, took issue with the comment, calling it “bad” and telling ESPN to “have some class.” Nicki’s husband Corey Dennis is on Ohio State’s coaching staff, which helps explain why the family was there.

Urban’s younger daughter Gigi also commented to say the family was at the Fiesta Bowl all week.

And Urban’s wife Shelley said she was “deeply offended” by the comment, noting Urban was there in a TV capacity and that their son Nate was standing next to the coach.

The comment was clearly a joke and jab at Meyer, but his family took it literally and doesn’t care.

Their reaction should not come as a surprise. They have repeatedly shown they are offended by anything they perceive as a slight towards Urban and that they will fiercely defend him. Their loyalty towards him is unwavering.

Urban Meyer, wife Shelley attend Florida game in Gators gear

Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer and wife Shelley still have positive feelings towards the Florida Gators several years later.

Meyer, who coached Florida from 2005-2010, and his wife attended Saturday’s season-opening game between the Gators and Miami Hurricanes in Orlando. Both were wearing Florida gear, according to reporters. Meyer was later shown by ESPN on TV in his Florida gear.

Meyer led the Gators to two national championships. He stepped down after the 2010 season, citing his health and a desire to spend time with his family.

Meyer returned to coaching after a year off and led Ohio State for seven seasons before stepping down after last season. Now that he has time on Saturdays and is not coaching a team, he and his wife are able to take in games and made Orlando their first stop of the season.

Meyer will be working as a TV analyst for FOX this season and has already taken a jab at Michigan in that capacity. Many still expect the 55-year-old to return to coaching at some point.

Urban Meyer’s wife tries to clarify stance on Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick Castro

Shelley Meyer, the wife of Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer, created a buzz on Monday when she sent some tweets about Colin Kaepernick. She later tried to clarify her stance and apologized for the way her comments were interpreted.

After news surfaced on Sunday that Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL accusing the league’s owners of collusion, Shelley Meyer responded to a news article on Twitter by saying Kaepernick “made his choices.” Meyer also agreed with a fellow Twitter user that she would take Tim Tebow over Kaepernick any day, which led to a lot of backlash.

While some took her remarks to mean she does not care about issues of social injustice, Meyer says she was merely stating that all actions have consequences.

Kaepernick’s adoptive mother Teresa was among those who felt Meyer’s assessment of the quarterback’s situation was ignorant.

Unlike Kaepernick’s adoptive mother, the quarterback’s biological mother was one of the first people to criticize him after he took a knee during the national anthem last year.

Kaepernick knew there would be backlash when he decided to kneel, but he probably had no idea it would contribute to him not being able to find a job the following season.

Colin Kaepernick’s mom fires back after Urban Meyer’s wife criticizes QB

Colin Kaepernick Castro

Shelley Meyer, the wife of Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer, took to Twitter on Sunday to share some of her thoughts on Colin Kaepernick and the free agent quarterback’s political stances. Not surprisingly, Kaepernick’s mother is one of the many people who disagree with Meyer’s opinion.

Here are some screenshots of the exchanges:

On Monday, Kaepernick’s adoptive mother Teresa Kaepernick fired back at Meyer.

Many have pointed out that the Meyer family should be more sensitive to social rights issues given how many successful black athletes Urban has coached. The Meyer family is extremely close-knit and has always gone to bat for one another, but in this case Urban probably wishes his wife kept her opinion to herself.

Unlike Kaepernick’s adoptive mother, the quarterback’s biological mother was one of the first people to criticize him after he took a knee during the national anthem last year.

Urban Meyer jokes about picking up milk after wife calls during press conference (Video)

Urban Meyer wife Shelley

You can coach your team to the biggest game of your season, but don’t think that gets you out of having to bring milk home afterwards.

At least, that’s what Ohio State coach Urban Meyer told reporters he had to do after his press conference was interrupted by a phone call from his wife Shelley.

Ah, coaches. They’re just like us.

It’s worth noting that some viewed this as a veiled shot at Meyer’s Michigan counterpart Jim Harbaugh, who is an endorser for Fairlife Milk and once – jokingly, we think – called Meyer’s supposed milk preferences “candy-ass.” That’s probably a stretch, although given how fierce these rivalries get and how they can ensnare families as well, it says something that we’re not willing to rule it out completely.
