Ronda Rousey to face Triple H, Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania

Ronda Rousey Triple H

WWE made it clear during Elimination Chamber 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday night that Ronda Rousey will be facing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a tag team match at WrestleMania 34.

Rousey appeared in the ring at Elimination Chamber to sign her contract with WWE. Before doing so, she slammed Triple H through a table and got slapped in the face by McMahon.

Rousey is expected to team up with Kurt Angle in the WrestleMania match, but The Rock was previously reported as a potential partner for her.

Oh, and to all those saying wrestling is fake? That slap Rousey received was legit.

Another interesting note is that the site of Elimination Chamber — T-Mobile Arena — is where Rousey lost at UFC 207. She has not fought in the UFC since then.

Stephanie McMahon would love Ronda Rousey to sign with WWE

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey may never fight in the UFC again after she failed to regain her title with a loss to Amanda Nunes back in December, but that hardly means we have seen the last of her.

Rousey has spoken often about wanting to advance her acting career. And if she decides making a few WWE appearances could help her accomplish that goal, Stephanie McMahon said this week that the door is wide open.

“Everybody’s always asking me about Ronda,” the WWE chief brand officer told ESPN’s Jemele Hill and Michael Smith. “Yes. I know that she loves WWE and we certainly love her. It would be a match made in heaven. Hopefully one day we’ll have that opportunity.”

Spending some time in the WWE would make a lot of sense for Rousey. After she lost to Holly Holm in Nov. 2015, Rousey’s image and self confidence were seemingly shattered. Her entire MMA career centered around being an unstoppable force, and she has now lost two fights. We learned this week that Rousey has been working with a new nutrition specialist, which could mean she is looking to prepare for a UFC fight, acting roles, WWE appearances, or all of the above.

Rousey hasn’t said whether she will ever fight again in the UFC, though this Instagram post from January got people talking. If she does decide to close the book on her MMA career, the WWE could be a natural fit.

Stephanie McMahon zings CM Punk with UFC blast

Stephanie McMahon

Stephanie McMahon hit CM Punk with a zinger during “RAW” on Monday night.

RAW was held in Punk’s hometown of Chicago on Monday, so fans broke out with a chant of his name. McMahon must have been prepared, because she responded to the fans with a liner mocking Punk’s failed UFC debut in September.

That would be a reference to Punk’s loss to Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in just 2:14. Punk retired from wrestling in 2014 and blasted the WWE.

Stephanie McMahon: WWE ‘not supporting’ Brock Lesnar’s UFC fight

Brock Lesnar

WWE officials have agreed to allow Brock Lesnar to return to the Octagon to fight Mark Hunt at UFC 200, but that does not mean they are pleased about it.

In a recent interview with Lara O’Reilly of Business Insider, WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon, Vince’s daughter, was asked about Lesnar’s upcoming MMA fight. She referred to it as a “special case” and made it clear that the big wigs at the WWE are not thrilled about it.

“In Brock Lesnar’s case it was really a special case that we are allowing him to do this fight,” McMahon said. “But like you said it’s not really a cross-promotional opportunity, but we are allowing him to participate in that fight.

“We are not supporting the fight necessarily but, again, it’s not a competitor to us and the more that our superstars, that’s how we refer to our talent, the more they do outside of WWE, the more awareness it generates and the broader the audience can be that is then brought back into our properties. So we recognize the value of that.”

Shortly after the announcement was made that Lesnar was returning for UFC 200, we gave you some insight explaining how Brock may have worked a UFC option into his latest WWE contract. Since UFC 200 is not a co-promotion for the UFC and WWE, it seems even more likely that Lesnar has that option. Otherwise, the McMahons probably would not have allowed him to risk his health.

If Lesnar does have a UFC option in his contract, you have to wonder if it’s only for one fight. It would make sense for that one fight to be at UFC 200.

Roman Reigns takes out Stephanie McMahon (Video)

Stephanie McMahon

Roman Reigns pinned Triple H in the main event at WrestleMania 32 on Sunday, but before that happened, he got a heck of a shot in on Stephanie McMahon.

Reigns went charging after Triple H, but he moved out of the way and Stephanie McMahon got leveled by Reigns:

Reigns also put Triple H through a wall during their match and was complaining throughout the match about an injured shoulder. Between Stephanie taking the big shot and Shane jumping off the top of the cage, the McMahon family really took some big hits for the team.

Stephanie McMahon invites Michael Sam to WWE Raw

Michael-Sam-WWE

Michael Sam was released by the St. Louis Rams last week and was not signed to the team’s practice squad, meaning he is free to pursue a job elsewhere in the NFL. In the meantime, the former Missouri star has been invited to speak to WWE fans during next week’s edition of Monday Night Raw.

On Tuesday morning, WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon invited Sam to appear on Raw in a letter on WWE.com:

Exhibiting class and dignity rarely shown in professional sports, Michael Sam, WWE invites you to next Monday’s Raw to speak of your struggles to succeed, lessons you have learned along the way, the courage it takes to be yourself and the prospects of your continued journey.

You are a role model, who, by example, can encourage everyone to stand up and openly be themselves.

Signed,
Stephanie McMahon
CBO, WWE

Sam has not yet responded to the invite, and he might be better off focusing on football and trying to convince a team to sign him instead of making public appearances at a WWE event. NFL stars like Chad Ochocinco and Michael Strahan have appeared on Raw, but that was after their careers were established. While Sam’s story is unique and certainly one worth sharing, his mind is probably on one thing only at the moment.
