The absolutely accursed luck for the Los Angeles Angels continues.

Angels star outfielder Mike Trout will need surgery on his knee. The exact injury timetable for Trout is not known, but it is not expected to be season-ending.

Angels GM Perry Minasian later told reporters that Trout suffered a torn meniscus in his knee and had no timetable for a return.

The 32-year-old Trout looked like he was back in MVP form to start off the season. He was batting .282 with a 1.053 OPS through his first 18 games (on the strength of eight home runs and 11 RBIs). But Trout hadn’t looked right over the last couple of weeks, hitting a miserable .105 in his last 11 games.

This is just the latest injury woe for Trout, who missed 249 total games due to injury over the previous three MLB seasons combined. Still, he is making around $35.5 million per year on a bloated contract that runs through 2030. Trout has been adamant this season that he still has no desire to seek a trade from the Angels, and at this point, the team probably wouldn’t be able to trade him even if they tried.
