Dodgers reportedly considering pursuit of Josh Donaldson

Josh Donaldson

Josh Donaldson looks poised to be one of the most in-demand position players on the free agent market this winter, and he’s getting serious interest from contending teams as well.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Dodgers are considering a pursuit of Donaldson, who is likely to decline the qualifying offer from the Atlanta Braves. Donaldson is regarded as one of the better right-handed hitters on the market, and the Dodgers are looking for some added punch in the lineup.

Adding Donaldson would likely require a shift in the Dodgers’ increasingly crowded infield. Assuming Donaldson remains at third, Justin Turner, who is entering the final year of his contract, would have to shift to the right side of the infield.

Donaldson’s name has popped up a lot in the early part of the offseason. Other teams are interested as well in both leagues. It’s a good position for Donaldson to be in after his bounceback season with Atlanta saw him hit .259 with 37 home runs.
