Report: Mike Butcher could return to Angels as pitching coach under Maddon

The Los Angeles Angels have already officially brought back one familiar face to their coaching staff, and now another may soon be following suit.

In the wake of the team announcing Joe Maddon as their new manager on Wednesday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reported that Mike Butcher is under consideration to return to his former position of Angels pitching coach.

Butcher, who was a former Angels reliever as well, was the team’s pitching coach from 2007 to 2015 before being let go. He had served as the pitching coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the last four seasons.

The Angels’ rotation is easily their weakest point, so perhaps hiring the last coach under which their pitching staff was fairly decent might make sense.
