Yankees’ Sonny Gray likely to make first start since Aug. 1

Sonny Gray

New York Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray may be getting another chance to start for the team.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Wednesday that Gray is likely to start one of the team’s two games on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Ironically, it was the Orioles that knocked Gray out of the rotation to begin with. He allowed seven runs on eight hits to the O’s over 2.2 innings on Aug. 1, which marked his last start for the Yanks.

Gray has pitched in relief since then, allowing three runs over 9.1 innings with seven strikeouts. He has a 2.89 ERA with a 1.82 WHIP as a reliever this month.

Though the Yankees have added Lance Lynn and JA Happ to their staff, CC Sabathia is on the DL, creating an opening for another starter.
