Enes Kanter took out insurance policy to cover one-year deal
New York Knicks center Enes Kanter opted into his contract for next season on Friday, but he’s covering all his bases just in case.
Facing a one-year contract and the lack of security that comes with it, Kanter said he’d taken out an insurance policy on himself in case of serious injury.
Because he’s on a one-year contract for next season, Enes Kanter purchased an insurance policy that will pay him $20 million if he suffers a career-threatening injury, he said in a phone interview.

It’s not the worst idea, and it provides Kanter some security in the worst-case scenario. Now he can turn his attention to trying to recruit the top free agent on the market to New York to play with him.
