Metta World Peace: I didn’t know who Knicks coach was when I came to New York
It’s not that World Peace dislikes Woodson — he just wants to win in New York and doesn’t care who’s in charge. In fact, Metta claims he didn’t even know who the Knicks’ coach was when he signed with the team over the summer.
“I honestly didn’t even know who the coach was when I was coming to New York,” he said earlier this week, via ESPNNewYork.com. “I just wanted to win a championship; I didn’t even know who was coaching. I didn’t care. It could have been Aunt Jemima. They could have had the syrup coaching. I was coming here regardless. I just wanted to win a championship here.”
I can tell you with confidence that Aunt Jemima would not have done a worse job with the Knicks over the last two weeks than Woodson has. Seven straight losses is seven straight losses. After Wednesday’s loss, the Knicks held a 20-minute meeting with both players and coaches. They already tried the players-only thing earlier this season, and it doesn’t appear that it worked.
“We talked. Everybody talked,” Anthony said of Wednesday’s meeting. “The players had a meeting, the coaches — everybody had a meeting after the game. We had to talk. We’re trying to figure it out together. We have to put four quarters together. We got to do it for one another. Right now the game is not fun for nobody. We’re just not making it happen.”
Woodson certainly isn’t the only problem, but a coach has to take responsibility. Aunt Jemima may be a better candidate at this point.
