Warriors’ new arena will include perfect homage to famous 2007 upset of Mavs

The Golden State Warriors may be moving to a new arena, but they will be bringing over every last bit of their franchise history as best as they can.

Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reported on Saturday that Golden State’s new Chase Center arena, which they will be moving to for the 2019-20 season, will have the perfect homage to their famous win over the Dallas Mavericks in 2007. For refreshers, that was the year that the eighth-seeded “We Believe” Warriors knocked off the top-seeded Mavs, who won 67 games that season, in the first round of the playoffs. After Dallas was eliminated, star big man Dirk Nowitzki made a hole in the wall at Oracle Arena when he threw a trash can at it. The hole remains there to this day and will be cut out and moved to the Chase Center next season.

The Warriors have played at Oracle Arena since 1971, so there are obviously a lot of memorable moments that have occurred inside of those walls. Thus, it’s only fitting that the team will now literally be taking the inside of those walls along with them to their new arena.

As for the now-40-year-old Nowitzki, this isn’t the first time that the Dubs have had some fun at his expense.
