Loyola Chicago pulled off a huge upset over No. 1 seed Illinois in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, and their fans celebrated with style.
As Loyola closed out their 71-58 win over the Illini, a group of Ramblers fans were shown on TV busting out some incredible coordinated dance moves. We can’t remember ever seeing more swag in a tourney game. Check it out:
The performance was a dominant one for Loyola. The Sweet 16 trip is their second in three years, as they also made an improbable run to the Final Four back in 2018.
Larsa Pippen’s dating life has become a big topic of conversation in the sports world since she was spotted out with Malik Beasley last year, but it appears she has moved on from the Minnesota Timberwolves star.
Pippen, the ex-wife of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, was spotted lounging with an unknown man earlier in the week. People also noticed that she and Beasley no longer follow one another on social media.
Pippen, 46, opened up about her relationship with Beasley last month. She denied coming between Beasley and his ex-wife, Montana Yao. Larsa also indicated that she and Beasley were no longer dating.
Sister Jean is a beloved member of the Loyola basketball program as the team’s official chaplain, and the 101-year-old reminded fans on Sunday that her basketball IQ is also off the charts.
As always, Sister Jean led the Ramblers in a prayer before tip-off. The prayer included some of what you’d expect, but Sister Jean also delivered a full-blown scouting report on Loyola’s opponent, Illinois.
Sister Jean's pre-game prayer for Loyola Chicago… is as much as a scouting report as a prayer pic.twitter.com/jKCvyHd9qJ
Sister Jean cited some offensive efficiency stats for the Illini and said Loyola needed to score early to put the pressure on. The Ramblers did exactly that, as they came out on fire and took a 33-24 lead into the half.
There was some question about whether Sister Jean would be able to attend the NCAA Tournament due to COVID-19 protocols, but the NCAA cleared her last week.
Sister Jean became an overnight celebrity when Loyola reached the Final Four in 2018. She is somewhat of a cult hero for college basketball fans, and we saw just how popular she was when Loyola sold Sister Jean bobbleheads. She clearly knows her basketball and studies Loyola’s opponents, too.
Lamar Jackson had a down season in 2020 following his MVP campaign the year before, and there are a number of reasons for that. According to Dez Bryant, the primary ones are not the quarterback’s fault.
Bryant, who signed with the Ravens midway through last season, sent an interesting tweet on Saturday about the way Jackson struggled in 2020. The wide receiver said criticism of Jackson bothers him after Dez saw first-hand what Jackson had to “deal with.”
“All of this Lamar hate is starting to get on my nerves … just know I got to see first hand what he have to deal with … him being able to play QB is far from the issue,” Bryant wrote.
Bryant didn’t go into detail, but some fans speculated that he may have been referring to Baltimore’s offensive scheme. If you remember, Jackson made some comments midway through the season that indicated he felt the Ravens’ offense had become too predictable. You can see what he said here.
Even in a “down” year, Jackson still threw 26 touchdown passes compared to just nine interceptions. He also rushed for over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns. Most people agree that Baltimore needs a play-making receiver, but head coach John Harbaugh says he won’t go overboard in trying to recruit one.
It has been more than 17 years since Randy Moss infamously pretended to moon Green Bay Packers fans during a playoff game at Lambeau Field, but fans never seem to grow tired of talking about the incident. Now, we have even more context for the fake moon.
Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tommy Kramer shared a video on Twitter on Saturday that showed an enthusiastic Moss discussing the events that inspired him to pretend to mock-moon Packers fans in 2004. Moss, who pulled the stunt after scoring a game-sealing touchdown in a playoff game, said he was heckled relentlessly by Green Bay fans for not playing in either of the two regular season meetings between the Packers and Vikings. Green Bay won both games easily.
Then, as the Vikings’ bus arrived at Lambeau Field for the playoff game, Moss says several Cheeseheads mooned the team bus. He couldn’t wait to return the favor following his big play. His entire recollection is worth listening to:
Joe Buck called Wild Card game for FOX, and he referred to Moss’s fake moon as a “disgusting act.” Many have said Buck went overboard, especially since Moss didn’t actually pull his pants down.
Abilene Christian pulled off a huge upset win over Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, and one of their players couldn’t resist trolling the Longhorns.
Wildcats bench player Paul Hiepler ran straight for the TV cameras while doing the “Horns Down” gesture after ACU won 53-52.
Want to guess how many minutes Hiepler played in the game and how many points he scored? Yes, the same as you and me. But he does have a lot of school pride.
Imagine being Texas, the pride of the state, the well-funded program, and losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Abilene Christian. And as if that weren’t enough, you have some bench scrub throwing the Horns Down at the end of the loss just to rub it in. That has to hurt.
Ohio University pulled off a huge upset on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament, and their fans loved it.
The Bobcats knocked off Virginia 62-58 to advance to the second round of the tourney. Virginia was a four seed in the event and actually the defending champions since last year’s event was canceled. But Ohio played them close and then was able to pull away in the end for the victory. Ben Vander Plas scored 17 points, and Jason Preston had 11 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists.
The fans back home at Athens, Ohio were loving the win and went out to Court Street nearby campus to celebrate.
Virginia was in a tough spot for the game. They won the ACC regular season but missed the conference tournament due to COVID issues. They spent the last week in quarantine and only arrived on Friday for the NCAA Tournament. It’s no surprise they weren’t at their best after such a layoff.
Ohio has now won its last three first-round games in the NCAA Tournament.
Dennis Schroder called out Rajon Rondo on Saturday over a silly play the Atlanta Hawks guard made.
Rondo got a technical foul for pressing the ball against Schroder’s head in the third quarter. Rondo made the move after a physical exchange when he was trying to back Schroder down. Rondo gave Schroder an elbow and then bumped into him.
Schroder was called for a personal foul, while Rondo got the tech.
After the game, Schroder called out Rondo. He said that the Hawks point guard’s move was “not basketball” and “not competing.”
Dennis Schroder on Rajon Rondo pushing the basketball into his forehead, drawing a technical foul today: “I love competitors but that’s not competing. … I’m going to leave it at that … That’s not basketball”
Rondo can definitely be a head case at times, and Schroder is right. That’s not basketball and that’s not competing. It’s Rondo being a troll like he’s done this season and during his career.
Michael Jordan has not always done too well with young rookies on his team (see: Kwame Brown, Adam Morrison, etc.). But LaMelo Ball may be a different story entirely.
On Saturday, Ball revealed how close he has already gotten to the Charlotte Hornets owner Jordan, complete with even an affectionate nickname.
“Yeah, definitely [a connection between us],” said the 19-year-old Ball, per Bleacher Report. “I call him ‘Unc’ and stuff. I already feel like that … I’ve seen highlights and stuff. My pops used to watch him and all that. So yeah, I’ve definitely seen him growing up.”
Ball has made Jordan look like a sage for selecting him in last year’s draft. Ball is not only the favorite for Rookie of the Year with averages of 16.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, but he has also helped lead Charlotte on a surprise run to the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Boxer Dustin Long was taken to the hospital after being knocked out in his fight against Tristan Kalkreuth on Saturday night at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Long and Kalkreuth had a six-round cruiserweight fight, but Kalkreuth knocked out Long in the first round. Long rolled to the edge of the canvas after being knocked out.
Well Tristan Kalkreuth from Duncanville just knocked Dustin Long out in the first round. Long almost fell out of the ring. They put the man on a stool and he fell off. Kalkreuth is 8-0, 6 KOs. pic.twitter.com/UzEHqo19iA
Dustin Long is still on the canvas, has barely moved since getting knocked through the ropes. Ringside paramedics are transferring him to a gurney and to a nearby hospital for observation. #OrtizHooker
