Manny Pacquiao Leads Anti-Condom Fight in Philippines
“God said, ‘Go out and multiply.’ He did not say, just have two or three kids,” Pacquiao preached.
In another interview, Pacquiao said “It’s sinful to use condoms and commit abortion. My parents were poor… they had four children, it was very difficult but we persevered.”
Pacquiao’s stance was viewed favorably by the Catholic church which is a powerful institution in the country; over 80% of Filipinos are Catholic. When Pacquiao says his parents were poor, he’s not joking. Manny literally turned to boxing after his dad killed the family’s dog for food. Given what Pac Man had to go through, I’m surprised he opposes the bill, but it’s clear he wants the support of the country.
It’s a good thing Pacquiao’s no longer has amateur status as a boxer because he sure wouldn’t fit in well at the Olympics. He also probably wouldn’t get along too well with Chad Ochocinco who once had a plan to market his own brand of condoms. Ultimately, Pacquiao’s stance is a curious one considering he’s admitted he and his wife have used birth control.
