Manny Pacquiao still thinks he beat Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao still wants a rematch against Floyd Mayweather. Pacquiao is confident he can beat Mayweather if his shoulder is healthy. In fact, Pacman is holding firm on his assertion that he got the best of Mayweather while fighting with an injury.

Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, says the Filipino always says “I still believe I won” when he watches film from the disappointing bout.

“No shoulder injury and Manny beats him,” Roach said, per Jeff Powell of The Daily Mail.

Amir Khan wants to fight either Pacquiao or Mayweather, but Pacquiao is lobbying for a fight against Danny Garcia. The 27-year-old Garcia is currently undefeated and has a knockout of Khan on his resume. Pacquiao and Roach believe that beating Garcia would give them a better shot at a rematch against Mayweather, who claims his September fight against Andre Berto — the 49th of Floyd’s career — will be his final bout.

“Don’t believe it,” Roach said of the prospect of Mayweather retiring at 49-0. “Floyd will fight on to his 50th. Too much money to be made. Especially if he fights Manny again.”

If you remember, Mayweather initially expressed a willingness to give Pacquiao a rematch. But after Pacquiao began leaking information about his shoulder injury and using it as an excuse, Mayweather went off on him and rescinded the offer.

In a certain sense, Pacquiao has to stick with the narrative of his shoulder injury costing him against Mayweather. That’s the only way he can justify a rematch.
