Misleading information emerges on Ryan Garcia’s positive drug test

Some misleading information has emerged regarding Ryan Garcia’s positive drug test.

Garcia on Monday requested that the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) analyze his B-sample from the drug test sample he provided to them prior to his April 20 fight against Devin Haney.

Originally, VADA had said that Garcia’s A-sample tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance Ostarine.

Additionally, Garcia’s A-sample also screened positive for 19-Norandrosterone, but the presence of the substance could not be confirmed.

Now here’s the important thing: a report on Tuesday said that 19-Norandrosterone was not detected. That cleared Garcia from testing positive for a second substance. However, that does not mean he is entirely in the clear.

In order for Garcia to have a chance of being cleared entirely, his B-sample would have to not have any detection of Ostarine. The issue for Garcia has always been that he tested positive for Ostarine, which is a banned substance. There were additional suspicions that he might have had some 19-Norandrosterone in his test, but that was dismissed.

Just know that it’s all misleading. Garcia has not been cleared yet. Everything for him hinges upon whether Ostarine is detected in his B-sample. If it is, then his victory will likely be overturned and he will likely face some discipline.
