Michael Sam gets standing ovation at Mizzou basketball game (Video)

Michael Sam attended Missouri’s game against Tennessee on Saturday night, and he received a very warm welcome. The former Missouri defensive end got a standing ovation from fans when he was shown on the arena video board. The Mizzou student section also gave him an overwhelming reception, and he shook hands with and hugged a few fellow students.

Earlier on Saturday, the Westboro Baptist Church had planned a protest of Sam on Mizzou’s campus. As they have been so many times in the past, the religious group was met by a wall of people who were protesting their protest. Sam tweeted a photo of the human wall and thanked those who participated for their support.

While there has been plenty of negative reaction since Sam came out, people like the Mizzou students and fans have probably made his decision much easier.
