Ohio State WR Evan Spencer: I think we’d ‘wipe the field’ with Alabama or Florida State
“I guess I’m a little biased, but I think we’d wipe the field with both (Florida State and Alabama),” Spencer told reporters on Monday, via The Plain Dealer. “That’s just my bias speaking. … Both teams are really [good]. They have their strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I think we can exploit them, but I’m a little biased.”
Spencer was obviously aware of how his comments might be taken, as evidenced by his repeated reminders that he is biased. Still, it’s usually unwise to provide bulletin board material for potential opponents, especially when you’re on the outside of the national championship picture looking in.
Ohio State is currently No. 3 in the BCS standings. If both Florida State and Alabama win out, they’re likely going to face each other in the BCS National Championship Game. Ohio State would need to win out and have one of those teams lose to get a shot. If Ohio State loses and one of Alabama or Florida State loses, there’s also a chance Stanford could sneak into one of the top two spots. You know, the whole BCS madness thing.
Personally, I don’t see anyone stopping Alabama. Jameis Winston has the best chance with the Tide having looked vulnerable on defense at times this year, but I simply can’t bet against Nick Saban.
