Year and a Half Later, Duke President Apologizes to Lacrosse Players

Gotta give kudos to my man Michael David Smith at FanHouse for being on top of this story over the weekend. Came down that Richard Broadhead, who to recap, assumed the players were guilty, called off the season, and fired the coach, all over some erroneous accusations by a hooker. And what did the lacrosse players get in return? An apology from Broadhead, a year and a half later, after their careers at Duke were over, and their reputations ruined:

First and foremost, I regret our failure to reach out to the lacrosse players and their families in this time of extraordinary peril. Given the complexities of the case, getting this communication right would never have been easy. But the fact is that we did not get it right, causing the families to feel abandoned when they most needed support. This was a mistake. I take responsibility for it, and I apologize.

Yeah, both you and D.A. Mike Nifong who tried to leverage the situation into political gain. Just what we need after all the damage has been done. Not like you were at all presumptuous in your actions. Some good the apology does now.
