49ers release NaVorro Bowman after failing to find trade partner

NaVorro Bowman

The San Francisco 49ers on Friday announced that they have released linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

The news comes just hours after reports said the team was shopping Bowman. Team GM John Lynch praised Bowman in a statement.

“NaVorro gave his heart and soul to this team for the last eight years, and for that we are all extremely grateful,” 49ers general manager John Lynch

Bowman, 29, is making nearly $7 million this season, which is too much for many teams. As a free agent, he will likely find takers on the market. There was talk of him potentially being cut before the season as he was working his way back from an Achilles’ tendon injury. He has been dissatisfied with his role on the team.
