Brandon Marshall: Ryan Fitzpatrick suddenly ignoring my texts

Ryan Fitzpatrick Jets

Brandon Marshall says he has not heard from Ryan Fitzpatrick in over two weeks, and the New York Jets wide receiver considers that to be a bad sign.

Marshall, who has made it clear throughout the entire offseason that he wants the Jets to re-sign Fitzpatrick, recently revealed on Michael Rapoport’s CBS Radio podcast that the 33-year-old quarterback has been ignoring his text messages.

“I don’t know what’s going on. To be honest, me and Fitz talk everyday, all the time, but I texted him the last two weeks three times and there’s no response,” Marshall explained. “The only thing that he can do to make this right is to say he was on vacation, I was out of the country. It’s not like him. It’s scaring me right now. It’s scaring me that my guy hasn’t texted me back.”

The Jets signed Muhammad Wilkerson, who had been given the franchise tag, to a long-term extension last week, freeing up salary cap space in the process. Marshall was glad to see the star defensive lineman get paid, and he is hoping the same happens with Fitzpatrick.

“I try to give support to the player, to Fitz, to Big Mo’, understanding what they’re going through because I’ve been through it,” he said.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets have been locked in a contract stalemate all offseason. The veteran quarterback led the Jets to a 10-6 record last season and set a franchise record with 31 touchdown passes. It’s no surprise Marshall and other veterans on the team want him back. Marshall used this entertaining video a few months ago to show how much he wants Fitzpatrick back in New York.

If the Jets don’t re-sign Fitzpatrick before training camp begins in less than two weeks, that is probably a sign that they are turning the page to Geno Smith.
