Jared Goff is the talk of Detroit these days, and that is new to him, even though he has played in a Super Bowl before.

Goff reacted to video of Detroit Red Wings fans chanting his name during Thursday’s game, and was clearly flattered. On Friday, he admitted that he had never experienced anything like this before during his time with the Los Angeles Rams, and loved playing in a city that “cares so much.”

“It was pretty cool,” Goff said, via Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press. “(It’s) pretty fun to be a part of a city that cares so much.

“(It) was not like this, no,” Goff added of his time with the Rams. “This is a little different, obviously the circumstances of it all kind of feeds into that, but these fans are unbelievable.”

This is less a shot at Rams fans than it is praise for Lions fans, who are riding the high of their team’s first NFC Championship appearance since 1991. With a win on Sunday at San Francisco, they can reach the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history.

Goff was seen as a bridge quarterback when the Lions acquired him in the Matthew Stafford trade in 2021. Now he is the toast of Detroit, and he is going to get paid in a big way fairly soon.
