Johnny Manziel still looking to trademark phrase ‘Johnny Football’

Johnny Manziel hair

The NFL career of Johnny Manziel has seemingly already crashed and burned, but that doesn’t mean the former Cleveland Browns quarterback is going to allow people to go around making money off his (former?) nickname.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, Manziel is still looking to trademark the phrase “Johnny Football.”

Manziel has had his attorneys file for several trademarks since he declared for the NFL Draft. Two years ago, Manziel battled with an investment firm over the rights to the phrase “Johnny Football,” and he eventually won. The mark remains unregistered by the USPTO, but it was previously used by Nike when Manziel had an endorsement deal with the apparel company.

If you remember, Manziel filed for a different trademark before his career with the Browns was derailed, though that nickname never seemed to catch on.

Even if he is approved for the “Johnny Football” trademark, will anyone want to buy something that has that phrase on it? Hey, Manziel’s suspension was officially lifted on Monday. Coincidence? I think not.
