Report: Rams confident they can retain 2 top free agents

Odell Beckham in Rams gear

The Los Angeles Rams, fresh off their Super Bowl LVI championship, will enter the new league year with several key personnel questions. They have decisions to make on multiple impending free agents, including wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and edge rusher Von Miller.

Head coach Sean McVay has been very public about his desire to see both return in 2022 and beyond, but money talks.

Currently, the Rams find themselves in salary cap trouble with less than a week remaining until free agency. They’re more than $20 million over over the ceiling and have precious few options to clear cap space. Despite that, they are apparently confident they’ll be able to retain both Beckham and Miller.

Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports that the Rams expect to clear the necessary amount of cap space to re-sign Beckham and Miller in the coming days — before they hit the open market.

In order to make that happen, the Rams will need to rework the contracts of both quarterback Matthew Stafford and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Stafford has a cap hit of $23 million in 2022, and Donald a cap hit of $26.75 million.

Miller is likely to receive a two-year deal that spreads out his salary a bit, but things are less certain for Beckham. He’s coming off a torn ACL in the Super Bowl and may not be available until late next season.

Either way, the Rams anticipate having both Beckham and Miller on their roster this coming season.
