Ravens’ first-round pick Hayden Hurst out with foot injury to start season

Baltimore Ravens

Hayden Hurst has given the Baltimore Ravens plenty of reasons to be excited in his first training camp and preseason, but the rookie tight end is going to have to wait longer than expected to make his regular season debut.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that Hurst has a stress fracture in his foot and needs to undergo surgery. He is expected to miss up to a month, which means he won’t be ready for Week 1.

The Ravens drafted Hurst with the No. 25 overall pick, so they clearly believe he is a player who can make a big impact. Hurst had 92 catches over his last two seasons with South Carolina, so he’s more than just a blocking tight end. That is something Baltimore’s passing game has been lacking in recent seasons, and they’re hoping the rookie is a quick healer.
