Stefon Diggs explains his frustration on sidelines during Vikings win
Stefon Diggs is downplaying the frustration he showed on the sidelines during the Minnesota Vikings’ NFC Wild Card Game on Sunday against New Orleans.
Diggs did not have much of a role in the offense for the first few quarters and was seen getting frustrated. He threw his helmet at one point and was also shown getting emotional with Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins.
Diggs was asked after the game about his emotional displays and downplayed them.
“It’s a game before anything. People don’t want you to show emotion. If you don’t show emotion, (people think) you don’t care, but if you show too much emotion … but it wasn’t nothing towards my guys,” Diggs clarified. “It was just the coverage I was getting. You get frustrated out there when they have two guys on you the whole game. Don’t get it confused with a distraction because the guys on my team know me. I’m always team-first, I’m always ready and willing to do anything so we can get a win. I care about my teammates and their opinion about me more than I care about the outside. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with showing a little frustration.”
Diggs didn’t have any targets at that point in the game. Getting ticked off seemed like a distraction for his team, because complaining could influence Kirk Cousins to force him the ball when the quarterback shouldn’t.
The Vikings were winning at the time and ended up victorious. Diggs really shouldn’t be frustrated, but it’s human nature to want to have a role in a victory and not just be a spectator.
