Brent Seabrook reportedly closing in on contract extension with Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly working on a deal that will keep defenseman Brent Seabrook with the franchise for several more years.

The Chicago Tribune’s Chris Kuc reported Thursday that Seabrook and the ‘Hawks are closing in on a long-term extension:

Seabrook is entering the final season of a five-year deal that paid him $29 million. At 30 years old, he still is young enough to pick up another big deal. The question is what kind of money will he be paid?

Knowing the Blackhawks and the way they have operated while winning three Cups in the last six seasons, they will not financially overextend themselves. They have less room to do so with the money already committed to Duncan Keith, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, but it’s obvious Seabrook is a high priority for the team. And in case that wasn’t clear, he was named a new alternate captain for the team:
