ECHL’s Devin DiDiomete suspended for bouncing opponent’s head off the ice (Video)

If Happy Gilmore were remade and his hockey career were based on a present-day player, it might be Devin DiDiomete. LBS commenter SpinMax sent in the above video of DiDiomete, a winger with the Chicago Express of the ECHL, along with a note detailing some of DiDiomete’s awful actions on the ice.

DiDiomete was suspended Saturday for attempting to deliberately injure an opponent Friday night (video above). Yeah, DiDiomete straight up tried to bounce an opponent’s head off the ice like he was pulling a Sue in Swingers. Sadly, that may not be his worst actions of the year; he was suspended three games in January for spearing the opposing goalie during warmups.

Spin calls DiDiomete the ECHL’s version of Ogie Ogilthorpe. From what I’ve seen so far, that nickname would be well deserved.
